Hourly Rate: £35-40ph

Duration: Until end September 2024, then on a 6 monthly rolling basis

Role Summary:
As part of this role, the Clerk of Works will play a pivotal role in ensuring that construction projects adhere to contract specifications and safety standards. Based in Winchester with site-based responsibilities, the successful candidate will monitor construction progress, relay instructions to contractors, and resolve minor design issues. Effective communication with stakeholders and prioritising Health & Safety are paramount in this dynamic role.
Responsibilities:
- Check and monitor construction work to ensure compliance with contract specifications and safety standards.
- Relay instructions to contractors, subject to written confirmation by the NEC4 Project Manager or Supervisor.
- Inform project management of progress and issues arising, resolving minor design issues with contractors.
- Take measurements, compile diaries, and maintain records on day works, claims, and related matters.
- Liaise with stakeholders to resolve queries and site problems, prioritising Health & Safety at all times.
- Address sustainability issues during the construction process.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- RQF level 3 or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in Civil Engineering and Highways projects construction.
- Knowledge of statutory regulations including chapter 8 TSM, NRSWA, and Health and Safety regulations.
Decision Making Areas:
- Assess and interpret contract documents and drawings to ensure correct execution of works.
- Prioritise workload on multiple concurrent schemes.
- Know when to seek assistance or report problems.
Working Conditions:
- Site-based role with provision of site office or central office location.
- Regular presence on live highways and construction sites, including lone working.
- Effective communication with colleagues, contractors, and developers in challenging environments.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with the role.
