The Finance and Planning Directorate in NHS England is looking for talented, diverse, highly motivated people to join the Financial Accounting team as Senior Lead: Sector Accounting - Accounts Production. We:

· work closely with government to agree NHS funding;

· ensure the NHS lives within its annual budget set by Parliament;

· decide how to distribute the funding to the different NHS services and parts of England;

· support innovative programmes that improve the care and experience of NHS patients or people using NHS services;

· set out the financial and performance priorities the NHS should be delivering each year;

· report how much the NHS has spent on providing services each year;

· explore how the NHS can make the best use of its money;

· look at how spend on building or equipment can improve the care and experience of people using NHS services.

· consider how nationally we use these resources to improve healthcare outcomes, reduce inequality, improve health and support the NHS.

As Senior Lead - Accounts Production, you will lead on the production of the Consolidated NHS Provider Accounts. This will include overseeing the design and production of templates to collect and process accounts information from over 200 NHS providers and leading a team supporting finance staff across NHS providers to deliver high quality financial reporting.

The team offershigh profile, fast-paced projects. This requires adaptability, rigor and innovation and provides exciting development opportunities for those developing their careers in the NHS, health or the public sector.

· A qualified accountant to lead on production of the Consolidated NHS Provider Accounts and supporting processes.

· Oversee the design of collection templates to collect accounts data from NHS providers, with a strategic view of risks in processes for collection of accounts data.

· Have an understanding of accounting requirements in the NHS and the ability to write guidance thereon.

· Experienced in producing IFRS accounts which may include consolidations.

· Strong attention to detail in reviewing accounts data and ensuring accuracy in consolidation adjustments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a trainee you will be undertaking, assisting and learning how to:

* Prepare period end financial statements for companies, partnerships, sole traders and LLP’s
* Prepare period end tax returns including corporation tax, partnership and personal tax
* Bookkeeping and VAT reporting
* Develop knowledge of various accounting packages and keeping up to date with various packages
* Direct client interaction to ensure accounts are finalised in a timely manner
* Liaise with H M Revenue & Customs




SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

* A minimum of 5 GCSE’s including maths
* An interest in the financial and accountancy sector, evidenced by prior work experience, extended reading or other relevant
experiences
* A high standard of ethics, both professional and personal
* Keen to work in an individual performance driven business (and be awarded accordingly)
* Able to work well in a successful and busy team
* Good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
* A desire to learn and develop
* General IT proficiency
