• Ensure that regulated establishments produce a safe product by executing appropriate inspection methods, determining non-compliance with regulatory requirements, documenting noncompliance and initiating enforcement action, where warranted.

This position is responsible for the direction of a highly complex consolidated Radiology program that includes General Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Molecular Imaging, Positron Emission Tomography, General Ultrasound, Vascular Ultrasound, and Interventional Radiology programs. The incumbent performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information and supervises all Advanced Medical Support Assistants (AMSA) in the service.

The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (SMSA) is responsible for ensuring the management of accurate and timely patient care coordination in all divisions and modalities of Radiology, coordinating all clinic administrative support activities in conjunction with the Administrative Officer (AO), Chief of Radiology, and other staff to provide adequate administrative staff coverage to assure quality patient care coordination. Will serve as an active member of the Radiology supervisory team, keeping the AO informed on all matters requiring their attention and/or action. Participates in the formulation of plans and determination of goals with the service and conducts Continuous Quality Improvement reviews in program areas. The incumbent is delegated authority necessary to accomplish assigned programs, performing the full range of supervisory duties and responsibilities to effectively utilize the manpower and resources allocated to the Radiology. This includes setting team goals and technically directing the work of
subordinates. It requires planning, assigning, reviewing, and accepting/rejecting work done by subordinates. The incumbent will make work assignments, set or negotiate deadlines, and designate completion dates. The incumbent makes final decisions on selections, evaluates performance, and takes disciplinary action when necessary. The incumbent coordinates leave, approving time as appropriate and arranging cross coverage in order to provide adequate coverage for assigned areas and other related activities of personnel assigned to Radiology. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performing observation-based screening, collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. This may involve obtaining patient health/medication history, and information about health-related or high- ill complete approved templates and tools.
• Participates in the admission of patients by obtaining information, orienting patients to the unit and treatment team, obtaining vital signs and weight and checking patients and their belongings for hazardous items.
• Obtain patient vital signs, document in the EHR, and report any vitals outside of normal range to licensed staff member.
• Observations and interventions. Examples: oxygen therapy, thermal regulation, ambulation, oral/trach care, IV insertion/removal.
• Point-of-care testing such as I-STAT and glucometer.

NDMS supports state, local, tribal and territorial (SLTT) authorities following disasters and emergencies by supplementing health and medical systems and response capabilities. The HHS Office of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, in its role as Coordinator of Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF-8), Public Health and Medical Services, of the National Response Framework, employs the NDMS to provide patient care, patient movement, and definitive care, as well as veterinary services, and fatality management support when requested by authorities from states, localities, tribes and territories, or other federal departments. In a disease outbreak, they may provide mass prophylaxis. During a special event, they stand ready to serve in case of an emergency. But no matter what the specific mission is, NDMS teams provide expert patient care that protects individual health and promotes national health security.
