This Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer position is in the Facilities Management Division, at the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI. The work extends beyond operator maintenance, and involves making repairs to Heavy Mobile Equipment by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective/worn parts and components. This includes, but is not limited to: automatic and non-automatic transmissions, drive lines, hydraulic utility systems, braking systems, and starting switches. The level of work performed may also include the repair or replacement of parts such as brakes, tires, suspension components and tune-up parts.
Major Duties:
- Performs mechanical repair work in connection with the rebuild and overhaul of various fuel and electrical assemblies/subassemblies for combustion powered heavy duty vehicles and heavy mobile equipment.
- Overhauls and repairs work on other medium weight gasoline and or diesel powered vehicles and equipment.
- Ensures that hazardous materials/waste within work area are handled/processed within operating guidelines.
- Insures that storage drums, and other containers housing hazardous materials/waste, are properly labeled and secured at all times and reports any deficiencies to the supervisor.
- Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site.
- Operates a pressure washer.
- Fills in from time to time as a truck driver, motor vehicle operator, tractor operator and work on snow removal.

The position is eligible for an AWS schedule with (8) 9 hr days and (1) 8 hr day in the 2 week pay period may be available with a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday off. *A valid State Issued Driver's License and a current Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) validated for Air Brakes is required. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
