The Deputy Chief People Officer (Deputy CPO) is a pivotal member of the People Directorate’s senior leadership team and will support the Chief People Officer in the overall leadership and management of the People directorate function. This will include leading the development and implementation of the People Strategy, enabling the Trusts to recruit, retain and develop the best workforce to deliver its goals and objectives and support high quality patient care. In addition, the Deputy CPO will ensure that key transactional people directorate functions deliver to our Clinical board and corporate areas, facilitating and enabling high levels of workforce engagement and performance to support delivery of the Trusts’ strategic and performance goals and its improvement priorities.

Clinical:
The post will include the responsibility and supervision of children (both in-patient, day case and out-patient) with leukaemia, solid tumours and adolescents with malignancies. The postholder will gain experience in the management of patients with:

• Children teenagers and adolescents with extracranial solid tumours
• Teenagers and adolescents with extracranial solid tumours
• Young people with brain tumours
• Young People leading up to and following Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation and Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell therapy
• The care of children receiving conditioning and delivery of stem cell transplantation.
• The post holder will gain experience in the clinical management of young people with a comprehensive range malignancies and haematological disorders.

Administrative:
• The post holder will be involved in the administration of the Paediatric Oncology Unit. He/she will be responsible for ensuring the documentation of all patients on the Unit, and the discharge summaries, are kept up to date. He/she will supervise the junior staff to ensure this.
• The postholder will be responsible with other junior colleagues for the administration of out of hours cover for the paediatric oncology unit.

Research:
The post holder will be encouraged to undertake a clinical research project. This may interact with the major research team of the Department:
1) The Leukaemic Stem Cell as a therapeutic target.
2) Chromosomal abnormalities within ALL.
3) The molecular pathology of neuroblastoma and medulloblastoma.
4) The clinical and molecular pharmacology of anti-cancer agents.
5) The epidemiology of childhood malignancies.
6) Long term follow up and survivorship.
7) Development and delivery of Early Phase Trial therapy.
8) Investigation and development of new technologies for healthcare.

Teaching:
The post holder will be expected to participate in the teaching programme. They will also be expected to teach at the bedside undergraduate and medical students. The trust has a dedicated Training and Medical Education department offering face to face and online training.
Within the Paediatric Directorate there are daily morning teaching sessions and a weekly grand round.
In paediatric oncology there is a weekly junior medical staff driven teaching and journal club session and there is weekly targeted training sessions by the Consultant of the week. Our preclinical research unit provides a curriculum of weekly oncology research presentations including local national and international speakers.

The Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) is looking to appoint a Radiotherapy Service Manager and Professional Lead Therapeutic Radiographer based in Newcastle.

We are looking for a well-motivated, experienced person to lead the delivery of radiotherapy services within our Cancer Centres in Newcastle and Carlisle (Northern Centre for Cancer Care North Cumbria).

This management position within NCCC/NCCCNC involves the full range of management accountabilities including day-to-day operational management of the radiotherapy department in both Newcastle and North Cumbria.

This post is responsible for teams across both departments incorporating approximately 100 members of staff, predominantly radiographers.

We have 9 Varian TrueBeams, 2 Tomotherapy units, 3 CT Scanners, 1 SXT unit and 1 HDR brachytherapy unit across our two sites, delivering treatment to approximately 6000 new patients per year employing a wide range of therapies including multi-met SRS, lungs SABR, HDR gynae brachytherapy, TBI/TSEI, gated lung therapy and cardiac SABR.

This is an exciting role for a motivated individual keen to drive improvement and join a very supportive and collaborative team.

The post holder takes day-to-day responsibility for delivery of the radiotherapy department’s key performance indicators as laid out in the NHS England’s service specification. This includes achieving the national cancer waiting time targets including the 62 and 31-day waits.

NCCC provides a highly specialized regional radiotherapy service to a population of circa 3.3million across the North East and North Cumbria with radiotherapy service provision for circa 2.0million.

This senior management position within NCCC/NCCC-NC involves the full range of management accountabilities for the delivery of radiotherapy services, including day-to-day operational management of the departments in both Newcastle and North Cumbria. A key objective for the post holder is to ensure equity of service delivery across the geographically spread treatment locations. This requires the post holder to ensure effective agreement exists between the departments in delivery of both strategic and operational objectives in order to deliver integrated care pathways.

The role provides radiotherapy professional leadership to the Radiotherapy Operational Delivery Network (ODN) responsible for providing radiotherapy system leadership and the delivery of NHS England’s vision and ambitions for the modernisation of radiotherapy services

Clinical:
The post will attract up to 10 programmed activities (7.0 CHIPS / 3.0 St Oswald’s). Within the 10 PA job plan, appropriate time will be built in for SPA activity.

Planned activities will include home, hospital and hospice visits, complex case meetings, contributing to specialist team MDTs and developing links within the region; with community teams and inpatient specialist teams. In addition to this, it is expected that at least one consultant each day will be available for unplanned activities such as clinical consults and urgent requests.

On-call Duties:
0.25 PA is included to cover weekend telephone advice 9am-5pm that occurs 1 in 5 weekends with CHIPS.

An availability supplement will be allocated to contribute to St Oswald’s on call arrangements (up to 1 in 4 non-resident on call which can be combined with weekends providing telephone CHIPS advice).

Currently there is no 24 hour advice line available for paediatric palliative care within our region, but with anticipated increase in funding it is expected that the successful applicant will contribute to an on call rota for specialist advice out of hours in the future.

The appointee will be expected to take a role in management and administration within the department.

Research:
The appointee’s help and involvement in current research within paediatric palliative medicine will be welcomed, and the development and extension of his/her own research fields will be encouraged. The appointees will be expected to participate in audit and present audit data at palliative care service review meetings and at Directorate Clinical Governance Meetings.

Teaching and education:

This exciting new role will also all provide expert clinical leadership through teaching, supervision, advice, guidance and information to the NEAVS Multidisciplinary team, other health care professionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals across the Trust and Partnership Organisations.

There will also be an opportunity to lead in partnership on developments and innovations in long term ventilation within the Trust and with relevant external agencies, locally and nationally.

• To be an expert practitioner, with highly developed knowledge and clinical skills in physiotherapy airway clearance and long term ventilation developing an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability in the provision of such care.
• To act as a source of expertise on physiotherapy airway clearance and long term ventilation imparting highly specialist knowledge and current Evidence based practice
• To take an active role in teaching, audit, quality improvement and service
development.
• The post holder will act as an autonomous practitioner in leading and developing the long term ventilation physiotherapy service within NEAVS at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust.
• To promote Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust as leaders in long term ventilation and as an national and international centre of excellence.
• Lead in partnership on developments and innovations in long term ventilation within the Trust and with relevant external agencies, locally and nationally.
• In line with the Trust’s commitment to clinical governance, develop, lead and implement standards for clinical audit to evaluate clinical effectiveness and promote clinical excellence within NEAVS physiotherapy.
• To have a role in the development of multi-professional service development within the field of long term ventilation.
• To provide expert clinical leadership through teaching, supervision, advice, guidance and information to the NEAVS Multidisciplanry team, other health care professionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals across the Trust and Partnership Organisations.
