SWMRC is seeking a full-time guitar teacher. This position involves teaching students of all ages and abilities in individual, group, and ensemble situations. Teaching is carried out at the Conservatorium in Deniliquin and throughout the region. The teachers must have a passion for engaging students in developing musicianship. Student and school enrolments guide the needs of the Conservatorium on an annual basis.
The Position
The successful candidate will be required to:
• Carry out instrumental instruction weekly in one-on-one lessons or in small groups ranging from beginner to advanced levels
• Teach musicianship in schools as part of the South West Music Ensemble and Classroom Program
• Work with students ranging from primary years through to adult learners
• Maintain a high standard of instruction and feedback to students
• Deliver and promote the student instrumental programs within the Conservatorium.
• Encourage and prepare students for concerts, examinations, and eisteddfods
• Accompany students for concerts and exams and participate in staff performances
• Be passionate about students' performances, supporting them at Conservatorium and community events
• Teach school programs at both public and private schools in the South West region of NSW
• Teach in other areas of music, according to the applicant’s range of skills and experience
• Teach at the Conservatorium in Cressy Street, Deniliquin, and travel within in the region as required (vehicle provided for this purpose)
• Work with SWMRC staff, particularly the Head of Music to promote your instrumental skillset in schools and the community, to implement the SWMRC strategic plan, and to work with and expand the SWMRC’s Curriculum Program.
• Complete all position related administrative work promptly and professionally.
• Follow and adhere to all South West Music policies and procedures as outlined in the Code of Conduct and Staff Handbook.
Essential Criteria Applicants must have:
• Ability to demonstrate professional knowledge of your specialty at an advanced level
• Have an engaging manner with students who are developing as young musicians
• Participate actively in music events
• Have an enthusiastic approach to young people's instruction, focusing on developing knowledge and skills
• Possess the ability and willingness to contribute to the Music Team
• Have experience at teaching all levels of your specialised instrument individually and in groups
• Be familiar with working within school environments
• Hold suitable qualifications in music or education or have equivalent, demonstrable professional experience
• Ability to contribute to planning and administration of the teaching program as required
• Be prepared to work as part of a team and to share knowledge and skills
• A current NSW Police Check and NSW Working With Children Check
• Hold a current NSW or Australian Driver's License.
Desirable Criteria Applicants may have:
• It would be an advantage to have a tertiary qualification relevant to Music and/or teaching, although this is not compulsory
• Be a professional performer with the capacity to participate in performance as a soloist and/or ensemble musician
• Performance experience.
