OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, has been established to construct, develop and operate a world-class greenfield manganese and ferroalloy smelter in the Samalaju Industrial Park, Sarawak, Malaysia. OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. is a subsidiary of OM Holdings Ltd. OM Holdings Limited (ASX Code: OMH) is an independent, internationally diversified minerals group with its primary focus on expanding its fully integrated manganese business. Job Title: Deputy General Manager – Production/Manufacturing
Location: Samalaju, Sarawak, Malaysia
Role reports into: General Manager, Production
Job Responsibilities
Responsibility to staff and direct the team to:
- Responsible for the comprehensive management of all stages of ferroalloy plant operation; (FeSi, Mn, Metallic Silicon);
- Assist the general manager of production to formulate and implement production and operational strategies and policies to ensure the realization of production targets;
- Ensuring that the team understands that the organisation’s profits and achievements are reflected in all its operations and activities – including relationships and risk management;
- Direct and lead production teams and drive initiatives to promote performance excellence;
- Supervise production results, guide operational activities, set high standards, and promote continuous improvement;
- Contribute to training and development of the team;
- Meet customer satisfaction in accordance with organisation plans
- Improve the safety production operation system, quality control standards, cost control strategies and risk management measures;
- Assist the general manager of production in formulating annual production work plan, production budget, production schedule, production target and resource plan to support the realization of organizational goals;
- Maintain overall organisation responsibility for performing all duties in compliance with related manufacturing legal/statutory regulations, professional duties, responsibilities and obligations and programs and initiatives of the company
Day to day responsibilities agreed with your manager to include:
- Manage, direct and monitor the overall performance of the ferroalloy plant
- Effective liaison, support and assistance with other departments
- Maintain and improve mechanisms for manufacturing and all organisation activities, including surveying and measuring the manufacturing operations, process, outcomes and profitability and disseminate feedback to the appropriate internal entities
- Utilise agreed systems to manage the organisation’s functions, analysis and documenting
- Direct the development of plans for the organisation to achieve targets
- Developing plans for the organisation’s progress and growth
- Support to all other departments in matters related to manufacturing, e.g. procurement of materials
- Subject to agreed criteria, recruitment, training, set action and targets, appraise and manage performance, development, coaching and general support of all team members to ensure targets are met
- Reporting (content and format as agreed) on a monthly basis or as otherwise required
- Developing plans for team activities to include strategy to achieve targets
- Assist in the development and preparation of the strategy and general business planning of the organisation as a whole.
- Delegate authority and responsibility to team with supervision, accountability and review
- Set an example for team members of commitment, manufacturing process expertise, work ethics and habits and personal character
- Maintain accurate records
- Responsibly use resources and control expenses to meet budgetary controls
- Adhere to all organisation policies and procedures
- Interact and co-operate with all members of the organisation, its suppliers and customers
From time to time, you may be expected to be part of special projects as are reasonably required of your job role.
You are responsible for your allocated workload and must meet all targets as agreed with your Line Manager. You must contribute towards the smooth running of the organisation generally.
Secondary Tasks/Duties
- The role is part of the whole organisation team and as such requires you to perform such reasonable tasks that are required, as and when necessary, to maintain, promote, develop and expand the business of our organisation and its interests generally.
- You must carry out your duties to the best of your ability, having consideration for the needs of your colleagues, the organisation and its clients/customers. You must obey all lawful and reasonable orders given to you and comply with the organisation’s rules, procedures and policies
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree or above, major in metallurgical engineering, chemical or process engineering;
- At least 15 years of cross functional management experience in steel industry or ferroalloy production enterprises (mainly in ferrosilicon and silicomanganese products. Metallic silicon experience is an advantage);
- Experienced in manufacturing operations, strong in process management and cross functional collaboration;
- Experienced in safety systems/extensive understanding of the implementation of safety rules and policies;
- Experienced in budget/expense management/deep understanding of budget/expense management, basic understanding of financial and accounting practices;
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and analyze data and trends using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access);
- Strong leadership, team building ability and advanced coaching skills;
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills;
- Proficient in English and Mandarin.
