SPED TEACHER AIDE

The Teacher Aide supports teacher in empowering students to reach their fullest potential.

To develop our students holistically, the Teacher Aides support the Teachers in many aspects of our students learning such as classroom teaching, outdoor learning activities, performing & visual arts programme, public performances, camps, overseas trips, enrichment programme.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists in classroom teaching, supervising pupils and managing student behavior.

2. Assists in preparing classroom teaching aids / equipment and materials.

SPED TEACHER

The teacher empowers students to reach their fullest potential.

Description:

1. Prepare daily lessons in line with the Pupil’s IEPs alongside with Allied Health Professional.

Job Overview:
The HR & Admin Executive will support Metta Welfare Association’s HR and administrative functions by coordinating training programs, managing employee engagement activities, and handling essential administrative tasks. This role includes overseeing training applications, submitting grant claims, compiling monthly HR reports, and ensuring smooth execution of staff events.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Training Coordination

• Manage and track training applications to ensure timely registration for all employees.
• Submit grant claims through the SGGrant Portal for CCTG funding by specified deadlines (end of Feb and May 2025, if applicable).
• Organize and coordinate a PDPA training session for new hires before the end of March 2025.

2. Employee Engagement & Reporting

Metta Welfare Association - Youth Employment Support (YES)
Established in 2007, the Youth Employment Support (YES) program equips graduates of Metta School with life skills to foster independence and integration.

Arts@Metta: Offers visual arts training to increase job opportunities for Metta School graduates with mild intellectual disabilities and/or autism, empowering them with life skills for independence and social integration.

The Metta Home for the Disabled and Metta Home Day Activity Centre (慈光乐陶苑及智障日间活动中心) were set up in December 2000 to offer community care options to adults with intellectual disabilities who are aged between 18 and 55.

Funded by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), the former is a purpose-built facility designed to accommodate 103 residents, whereas the latter is supported under the MSF and Tote Board Social Service Fund to provide day care services for a capacity of 50 beneficiaries.

Our programmes aim to equip all recipients with the skills and means to lead independent and fulfilling lives, so as to achieve social integration and quality of life.

Tending them with holistic care and working closely with their primary caregivers to provide well-rounded support is a multi-disciplinary team comprising a social worker, training officers, staff nurses, assistant nurses, nursing and therapy aides.

As a Nursing Aide, the candidate is responsible in the following areas:

1. Caring of clients

• To dispense medication
• To carry out daily dressing for clients / residents
• To conduct health check for hypertension and diabetes clients / residents
• To supervise health attendance

Metta Preschool Punggol (慈光幼儿园) has been providing specialized early intervention programs since its official opening on 31 July 2010. We receive cases from SG Enable through hospital referrals, with enrollment following an initial screening process. Our center focuses on early intervention for children aged two to six years old, from various races and religions, diagnosed or suspected with mild to moderate autism spectrum disorders (ASD), global developmental delay, and/or intellectual disabilities. Our goal is to maximize the developmental potential of these children.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide feedback, guidance, and individualized training for new teachers to enhance teaching skills.
• Organize and lead workshops, training sessions, and events with guest speakers to inspire and support teacher development.
• Collaborate with the Head of Curriculum (HOC), Senior Teachers, and Manager to refine curriculum, lesson plans, assessments, and classroom management strategies.

The detailed responsibilities include:

1. Maintain the standards of our training facilities to ensure that ITE will renew our status as an Approved Training Centre (ATC) every 3 years.
2. Develop training resources appropriate for our students based on the Skills Standard stated in ITE’s curriculum.
3. Participate in ITE’s curriculum standardisation meetings to align standards between schools offering the same ISC.
4. Conduct Off-the-Job Training in school:Develop Scheme of Work (SOW) to ensure all the competencies stated in ITE’s Skills Standard are taught over the available curriculum time. Develop weekly Lesson Plans and conduct formative assessment to monitor students’ attainment of learning outcomes. Prepare and use a varied choice of appropriate instructional aids and ICT to cater to the different levels of learning abilities in students. Set ISC class tests and theory examination papers.
5. Conduct On-the-Job Training (OJT) at authentic worksites:Work with Job Coaches to support our students to meet the passing criteria. Work with partners to evaluate students’ performance based on ITE’s task list and assessment.
6. Monitor students’ progress, achievements and participation in school activities through appropriate documentation and record-keeping.
7. Implement interventional strategies with Form Teachers, Allied Health Professionals and parents to support students with specific learning difficulties.
8. Guide and equip students with work-readiness skills.
9. Adopt a positive approach to manage class discipline.
10. Collaborate with other trainers and teachers to develop the vocational training curriculum for the programmes catering to younger students, to support the development of pre-requisite technical skills.
11. Improve teaching and general skills by attending relevant professional courses, including the compulsory programmes required by ITE.

The Metta Home for the Disabled and Metta Home Day Activity Centre (慈光乐陶苑及智障日间活动中心) were set up in December 2000 to offer community care options to adults with intellectual disabilities who are aged between 18 and 55.

Funded by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), the former is a purpose-built facility designed to accommodate 103 residents, whereas the latter is supported under the MSF and Tote Board Social Service Fund to provide day care services for a capacity of 50 beneficiaries.

Our programmes aim to equip all recipients with the skills and means to lead independent and fulfilling lives, so as to achieve social integration and quality of life.

Tending them with holistic care and working closely with their primary caregivers to provide well-rounded support is a multi-disciplinary team comprising a social worker, training officers, staff nurses, assistant nurses, nursing and therapy aides.

As a Nursing Aide, the candidate is responsible in the following areas:

1. Caring of clients

• To dispense medication
• To carry out daily dressing for clients / residents
• To conduct health check for hypertension and diabetes clients / residents
• To supervise health attendance
• To provide personal hygiene, grooming care for the residents e.g. bathing, nail cutting
• To observe residents eating, habit and render assistance when required
• To provide toilet training at regular intervals

2. Others

• To coordinate with hospitals / polyclinics for medical appointments
• To escort / accompany clients for follow up appointments / visits to doctors etc
• To coordinate with physiotherapy aide and assist in the residents’ daily exercise routine
• To facilitate and conduct activities programme e.g. art and craft
• To report any adverse behaviour of residents to supervisor ex: staff nurse
• To attend emergencies when arise
• Any other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

• Minimum 1-3 years of nursing care experience, prior experience working with people with special needs is preferred
• Minimum Diploma/ degree in Nursing or equivalent
• Must be able to work 3 rotating shifts including weekends and public holidays
• Ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Hardworking, meticulous and responsible.

• ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) in Baking (1-module)
• ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) in Baking Practices (4-module)

Qualifications

• Diploma in Pastry & Baking Arts or equivalent
• At least 3 years of industry experience, with specialization in pastry & baking
• Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Preferably with WSQ ACTA and/or DACE qualifications
• Preferably with teaching experience, particularly of students with special needs
• Basic knowledge of MS Office

To develop our students holistically, the Trainers are involved in many aspects of our students learning including (not exhaustive) classroom teaching, outdoor learning activities, performing & visual arts programme, public performances, camps, overseas trips, enrichment programme, etc.

Trainers will have to work closely with parents, school partners and the community to support students’ learning. Hence, Trainers are involved in parents meeting, home visits, parents’ workshops, work attachment programme, Metta Carnivals, Metta’s fund raising events, etc.

As Trainers develops students holistically, there are activities that are Trainers’ responsibilities that may be held beyond work hours, as follows (not exhaustive):

• Camps
• Enrichment and Remedial programmes
• Field trips or overseas trips
• Values-in-action activities
• Performing & visual arts activities including concerts and performances
• Professional development activities
• MOE SEB workgroup work assignments
• Briefings, meetings and Focused Group Discussions conducted by MOE SEB, NCSS, MWA, SGE and other agencies
• Parents workshop, briefing or meetings
• Activities organized by MWA including carnival, fund raising events and half-yearly briefings
• Exigency of services where trainers support is required to help in a crisis or when our students need our support.

The detailed responsibilities include:

1. Maintain the standards of our training facilities to ensure that ITE will renew our status as an Approved Training Centre (ATC) every 3 years.
2. Develop training resources appropriate for our students based on the Skills Standard stated in ITE’s curriculum.
3. Participate in ITE’s curriculum standardisation meetings to align standards between schools offering the same ISC.
4. Conduct Off-the-Job Training in school:Develop Scheme of Work (SOW) to ensure all the competencies stated in ITE’s Skills Standard are taught over the available curriculum time.
   Develop weekly Lesson Plans and conduct formative assessment to monitor students’ attainment of learning outcomes.
   Prepare and use a varied choice of appropriate instructional aids and ICT to cater to the different levels of learning abilities in students.
   Set ISC class tests and theory examination papers.
5. Conduct On-the-Job Training (OJT) at authentic worksites:Work with Job Coaches to support our students to meet the passing criteria.
   Work with partners to evaluate students’ performance based on ITE’s task list and assessment.
6. Monitor students’ progress, achievements and participation in school activities through appropriate documentation and record-keeping.
7. Implement interventional strategies with Form Teachers, Allied Health Professionals and parents to support students with specific learning difficulties.
8. Guide and equip students with work-readiness skills.
9. Adopt a positive approach to manage class discipline.
10. Collaborate with other trainers and teachers to develop the vocational training curriculum for the programmes catering to younger students, to support the development of pre-requisite technical skills.
11. Improve teaching and general skills by attending relevant professional courses, including the compulsory programmes required by ITE.
12. Contribute to the personal and professional development of colleagues through sharing sessions of skills, knowledge and information.
13. Perform administrative and after-school duties such as after-school-hours outings and other ad-hoc activities.
14. Be a role model to students, uphold the professional and personal qualities required of the educational profession to achieve the best student outcomes.
15. Carry out other tasks assigned by the school.
