Band 5 Staff Nurse Post Adult Rehabilitation Division

We are delighted to announce we have a number of vacancies for a Band 5 Staff Nurses within our Rehabilitation Division. Full time posts available in our High Dependency female bed inpatient unit in Bolton and at our Male bedded Open Community Rehabilitation Inpatient Services in Manchester and Salford. The vacancies are permanent positions.

Rehabilitation Units provide in-patient assessment, care and rehabilitation for adults with complex and enduring mental health difficulties who are aged 18 upwards andthe length of stay will depend on progress through the pathway and appropriate risk management for service users. Our community rehab service also offers Step Down and Outreach service. The role of the Staff Nurse involves providing leadership, managing junior staff and acting as shift coordinator on the ward on a day-to-day basis; responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating programs of care along with the service user in line with the recovery model and working in accordance with the CPA process.

• Behavioural Family Intervention assessment and interventions for families who are supporting a person’s recovery from psychosis.

• CBT based assessment and intervention sessions for CMHT service users who are experiencing complex and potentially long-standing problems such as severe anxiety, depressed mood, and trauma.

•Recovery focused group work for people who use the service and/or their family members (e.g. running ‘Friends and Family’ groups).

The posts will be within HMP Wymott and HMP Garth in Leyland, Lancashire. The prisons are situated right next to each other on the same rural site near the village of Ulnes Walton.

HMP Wymott is a Category C men’s prison with a capacity of approximately 1170 people, including those convicted of sexual offences.

HMP Garth is a Category B men’s prison with a capacity of approximately 800 people, generally serving sentences of over 4 years.

Clinical Duties

· Respond to medical problems presented by patients residing within the custodial environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of dedicated consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary teams to help shape a modernising mental health service, which has been transformed following recent changes in community settings and inpatient provision.



The consultant will work on the Inpatient Unit at North View, North Manchester General Hospital, for which the move will take place in early November 2024.

The new post holder will have joint consultant responsibilities for Forest Ward. Forest ward is the replacement for Mulberry Ward which is a mental health ward 20 beds. There will be areduction in beds before the move to 17. As such, this advertisement is for a full-time consultant post.

A high proportion of patients admitted to the ward suffer with psychosis and are detained on a section of the Mental Health Act. The consultant is expected to attend daily reviews on the ward and daily ward rounds. They will provide leadership and medical input. They will fulfil the role of the Responsible Clinician. They will be involved in training junior doctors, teaching medical students and engage in clinical management, audit and governance.

Clinical role

· Provide clinical leadership for the ward team and trainees

·The ward has 9 beds and patients can be admitted from across the trust’s patch, it will have 17 beds

·Conduct daily ward reviews and ward rounds, support the team to complete CPA

·Undertake assessments of admissions to the service

·Assist team to diagnose and formulate management plans in all presentations.

·Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.

·Coordinate care with input from pharmacists

·Preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers’ Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings.

Mental Health Urgent Response Team:

This is an established team based at Christopher Home, Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.

It is the single point of referral/access - for all service users referred to Adult Mental Health Services. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The service facilitates assessment and intervention at the first point of contact, following PbR (Payment by Results) Care Clustering - facilitating a needs - led care framework.

The Mental Health Urgent Response Team offers a model of collaborative care, at the interface between primary and specialist mental health care.

Clinical role

• Undertake assessments of referrals/ admissions to the service
• Diagnose and formulate management plans in complex presentations.
• Provide management in treatment resistant and complex presentations.
• Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.
• To be the nominated RC for those patients who are attending RAEI under section 17 leave at the request of ward RC.
• Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners.
• Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Forensic and
Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.

Leadership role

• Lead clinical decision making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
• Develop service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards.
• Engage with service transformation programmes including attendance at consultant meetings for their service and directorate.

Educational role

• Provide clinical supervision for trainees in gaining core psychiatric experience.
• Provide clinical supervision for psychiatric trainees in achieving competencies in core general psychiatry.
• Provide input in relation to medical students from UCLAN who are based on the ward.

Join an established Inpatient team, and a supportive Consultant group within leafy Trafford in South Manchester. Flexible working patterns are supported and the role can be adapted if the successful applicant wishes to work part time or establish other interests for example research. Role of the Inpatient Consultant Psychiatrist on Medlock ward

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced RMN to join our expanding Perinatal Mental Health Team. The posts are available at our Cluster 1 team based at Laureate House, Wythenshawe Hospital.

We are seeking a compassionate, person centred individual, with a genuine interest in working with women and birthing people, and their families in the perinatal period, who has excellent communication and multi-agency liaison skills.

The Perinatal Service is commissioned to support women and birthing people throughout Greater Manchester, who experience moderate to severe mental health problems during and after pregnancy, and for their infant up to the age of one year. The Perinatal Service provide assessment, care and treatment including the prevention, detection and management of maternal mental health problems that complicate pregnancy and the postpartum year.

Due to the expansive geography of this service, the post holder should hold a valid driving license.

The successful applicant will be responsible for a caseload of women and birthing people experiencing perinatal mental illness, working as a Perinatal Practitioner in partnership with service users and other professionals, managing and coordinating complex packages of care for both mother/birthing person and infant.

The post holder will work in a variety of settings completing routine and urgent assessments of women to assess mental health, risk, and safeguarding.

The post holder will work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in Early Attachment services, IAPT services, maternity services, health visiting, and children’s services.

There is also a duty worker element to this role, which will be carried out to support the Referral/assessment system.

Work as an autonomous Perinatal Practitioner with a defined caseload, ensuring the ongoing assessment of women/birthing people within the service and providing a range of needs-led interventions and care.

The post holder will work in a variety of settings undertaking assessments, using the agreed processes of women/birthing people with serious mental health conditions who have been referred to the team.

These substantive posts are within our male medium secure and womens blended services at The Edenfield Centre.
