Our Housing Solutions service is prevention and relief focused in which we look to work with applicants to manage any threats of homelessness and help prevent homelessness or find alternative accommodation.

The service faces a range of challenges, with an increasing demand for accommodation without an adequate supply of housing. We have made significant changes and developments as a service and achieve effective results.

We are looking for a Housing Solutions Officer with an understanding of the Housing Act 1996 Part 7 (as amended) and of the of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017.

You will be customer focussed and be able to manage a wide and varied workload, whilst meeting our business objectives and performance targets

The Housing Solutions Officer will assist in managing demand for the council’s housing services while offering advice and support to members of the public.

An instrumental element of the role will involve managing client expectations and building trusting relationships.

Excellent communication, negotiation and persuasion skills to effectively engage with a range of stakeholders on a daily basis, someone who has an eye for detail, someone who can think on the spot and take tough decisions, whilst applying the legislation and also positively contributing to the development of the service.

We are currently looking for a Finance Manager to join our Finance Team. Within this role you will support the Director of Resources and Head of Finance to develop all financial aspects of Colchester Borough Homes. About the role


Building safety has always been an important area of Colchester Borough Homes activity. As an organisation we are taking the necessary steps to ensure that we address all of the requirements of legislation, including the relatively new Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Act as well as emerging themes from the Social Housing Regulation Bill currently being considered in Parliament. We also need to ensure our ongoing compliance with the Big 6 Health and Safety categories (Absestos, Legionella, Gas, Lifts, Fire and Electrical). CBH requires a staffing structure with necessary capacity and resources to meet these demands.


This is an exciting opportunity to work in our newly created Building Safety team. We are recruiting a Health and Safety Manager who will report directly into the Head of Building Safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring health and safety in the workplace, including safe working practices and an effective assurance framework that includes up to date policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for ensuring the necessary framework is in place to support comprehensive compliance with legal (including the Health and Safety at Work Act) and regulatory health and safety requirements for CBH as an employer and company and for any organisation to whom CBH offers this service.


About you


Applicants must have membership of IOSH, and a NEBOSH Certificate in General Health and Safety.

This post will work with colleagues who are professional, caring and committed to delivering the very best service to our customers operating 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, this dual role will be covering the monitoring centre and our Helpline service.

Helpline – Established for over 25 years, we offer a telecare monitoring and falls response service to the residents of North Essex. This role involves responding to our customers that have fallen, within their own homes. With our specialist lifting equipment, we aim to safely lift the customer and leave them comfortable at home. We are also embarking on a significant digital transition of all our Helpline equipment, and you will therefore be supporting this role out installing new equipment.

A calm, methodical and caring personality is required for this role, no previous experience relating to the above roles is needed as all training and support will be provided.

You must have a full clean driving licence, as you will be driving one of our fleet of branded automatic vehicles, that are used whilst undertaking the Helpline role.

If successful, you will be expected to pass an enhanced DSB check and a full medical assessment.

On the job training will be given for both roles.

Monitoring Centre – You will be answering all our incoming Helpline alarm calls and out of hours answering all Colchester City Council calls and dealing with Colchester Borough Homes housing repairs. You will also be observing a network of high definition, digital CCTV cameras through Colchester City Centre, liaising with a range of businesses and teams across the city and with the emergency services where necessary.

You will be required to work various shifts as we operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You must be able to cover the full range of shifts across the 7-day week, with the set shift times as:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in our newly created Building Safety team. We’re recruiting a Building Safety Manager (Gas, Electrical and Lifts) who will report into the Head of Safety Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the requirements of all relevant legislation, regulation and required guidance is adhered to and that best practice is implemented for gas, electrical, lift and lightning conductor safety in respect of residential (rented, leasehold and communal areas) and buildings managed by Colchester Borough Homes (CBH).



About you

Applicants must have an understanding of the repairs and maintenance process, substantial knowledge and understanding of the current gas safety, electrical safety and lifts (LOLER) regulations, and previous experience working in the industry.

This is a career graded post, whereby the successful candidate will be provided with appropriate training and mentoring to progress through the grades.

You will be flexible and agile in your approach, being able to adapt to different circumstances and service demands. Management experiences is essential as well as excellent attention to detail due to the requirements of the role. Good computer literacy is a requirement, as are sound written and verbal communication skills.
