Paediatric Neurodisability Health Care Assistant

*A rare opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 to join our team of HCAs as part of the Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Team at St Giles School*

Tulip- The Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Service have a Special School Nursing Team based out of St Giles School. The role will support CYP with disabilities and complex health needs to attend school by delivering daily planned healthcare interventions. HCAs support with enteral feeding, catheter and stoma care, assisting the nurses with the delivery of respiratory symptom management plans and the administration of risk assessed medications during the school day. The role comes with training and support offering the completion of the HCA care certificate as part of the initial preceptorship period.

Additional non-clinical tasks include reviewing continence needs and product provision via the Tena, Indigo system, management of stock and equipment including Nutricia Homeward, monitoring and recording of regular heights and weights and support during the delivery of public health clinics held at the school.

Please note this role isMonday- Friday 32.5hrs per week term time only 08.45-15.45and the salary will therefore be pro rata at 77% of the total AFC Band 3 with HCAs outer London allowance.



The Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Team provides co-ordination and case management of children with highly complex and unstable long-term conditions in partnership with health, education and social care organisations.

The aim of the service is to provide a dedicated specialist children’s nurse to promote standards of excellence and manage the clinical risk of complex, unstable and vulnerable children in the community within the context of family centred care thereby reducing the need for secondary care interventions.

The Special School Nursing Pathwayfacilitates children and young people with healthcare needs, between the ages of 2 and 19 years of age, to access the education curriculum. The Band 3 healthcare assistants support the staff nurses to provide nursing care to children and young people with complex medical needs and learning disabilities carrying out daily clinical care as allocated by the nurse in charge. The post holder will work between the special schools in Croydon and be based at St Giles School.

Croydon Health Services Trust provides a broad range of elective and emergency services to a population of almost 400,000 across the borough of Croydon and delivered across Croydon University Hospital (450-bed inpatient) and Purley War Memorial Hospital (outpatient).



The department wishes to appoint a fixed term trust grade Senior House Officer in General Surgery and Urology for a provisional 6-month fixed term, which can be extended up to a maximum of 2 years. This post is intended to provide both service and surgical training alongside formal postgraduate SHO trainees within the department. Educational supervision will be offered and postholders will be encouraged to pursue the Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training (CREST) in order to support application for Higher Surgical Training. Postholders will be expected to engage in departmental education, research and governance activities. Allocation to surgical subspecialty firm will be confirmed after interview and dependant on current vacancies and departmental needs. Postholders are intended to rotate through different surgical subspecialties – Colorectal, Upper GI, Urology and Vascular.



The postholder will participate in a resident full shift pattern 1-in-12 on-call rota covering both General Surgery and Urology, including 12-hour day and night shifts. In addition, the postholder will contribute to a 1-in-12 “Hot Clinic” providing care for ambulatory surgical patients.

To enhance the provision of a Clinical Neuropsychology service to individuals with FND /Stroke and to their carers, working as a member of the Neuropsychology service.


To provide psychological assessments including standardised neuropsychological assessments and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified clinical
psychologist and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.


To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.


To participate in the preparation and delivery of group education programmes, under the
supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.

We are looking for an assistant psychologist to join the Clinical Neuropsychology Service and the Acute Stroke Service .



The role is based primarily in the community where the Clinical Neuropsychology team working alongside the friendly Community Neuro-Rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team. Referrals are received from a number of sources including the Croydon University Hospital
neurologists and stroke service, and community sources such as GPs and social workers. The referrals are for a range of neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain tumours, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease. The role includes administrative duties such as carrying out tasks related to data collection and analysis, arranging appointments and other office duties. It also involves direct clinical work. There will be regular supervision from a qualified clinical
psychologist, offering the opportunity to develop clinical skills in acute stroke, knowledge and experience. There will be opportunities to carry out psychological interviews, mood screens, neuropsychological assessments using standardised tools and facilitating psycho-educational groups.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES 1. Junior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

This exciting job opportunity is designed for someone who firstly has Emergency Medicine or Paediatric experience at or above FY2 level and secondly is likely to be committed to the development of Paediatric Emergency Medicine as a career. They may already have a Paediatric or Emergency Medicine background and be interested in developing their skills further in our busy Paediatric ED. The successful candidate will be given a timetable that covers rostered paediatric clinical duties on the shop floor and protected SPA time set aside to work alongside our PEM Consultants. The further development of this role shows our commitment to PEM as an important and significant subspecialty and our dedication to improving the care of children and young people within our ED and the wider Trust, as well teaching and training our staff. We pride ourselves on the close working relationship with the Paediatric team at Croydon University Hospital, which is further enhanced by shared learning on paediatric and safeguarding topics on both sides.

The Emergency Department

The Emergency Department at Croydon University Hospital (CUH) is one of the busiest in London and is a designated Trauma Unit, part of the South West London and Surrey Trauma Network. We have an established record of post holders enhancing clinical skills and enabling doctors at this level to progress onto speciality training programmes. The department consists of the following specific areas: Resuscitation (6 adults and 2 paediatric cubicles), Adult ED, Paediatric ED and the Urgent Treatment Centre. Paediatric Emergency Department

Paediatric attendances account for approximately one third of all attendances and due to the diverse population in the Croydon area we see a wide variety of acute pathology. Croydon also has an above average proportion of looked after children and children with child protection plans so the Department sees a higher than average number of child protection related cases. Due to the complex nature of our diverse population we see a higher than average number of seriously unwell children and work closely with the South Thames Retrieval Service to facilitate transfers to nearby PICU beds.

The Paediatric ED is very well supported by the CUH Paediatric team with whom we have an excellent working relationship. We have 3 dedicated Paediatric EM Consultants who provide cover throughout normal working hours. We have 4 PEM Clinical fellows who provide cover until 10pm 5 days a week with nights and weekends being covered by the doctors working in adult emergency medicine. Currently all paediatric blue calls are attended by the Paediatric SHO and Registrar.

Junior Clinical Fellow - Paediatric Emergency Medicine

This post is intended to offer Paediatric Emergency Department experience and an opportunity for the post holder to improve their skills in dealing with acutely unwell children and children presenting with minor injuries and illnesses.

General Responsibilities
• Assessment and management of paediatric patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries
• Participate in monthly clinical governance meetings
• Participate in the departmental active audit programme
• Help supervise and teach medical and physician associate students
• Attend morning handover at 8am if starting at 8am
• Attend board rounds at 11am and 3pm when on shift
• Work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team

Teaching, training and supervision:

Audit

Our JCF’s are invited to participate in our rolling audit programme and will be allocated an audit at induction. Audits can be swapped with other trainees if you have a particular desire to audit something different. Quality improvement projects are actively supported by the Department particularly for those staying 6 months to a year.



Supervision

All junior clinical fellows are allocated a clinical supervisor for duration of their contract. They are expected to meet with them at the start and end of the job and approximately every 3 months in between. The supervisor will offer on-going educational support and careers guidance. We encourage all of our juniors who are not in formal training programmes to maintain a record of their on-going training and we are happy to support them in establishing this.



Teaching Programme

Teaching for the junior clinical fellows is 3:30-5pm every Thursday afternoon. Senior clinical fellow and Registrar training occurs once per month and comprises of a full day of training. The programme is delivered by a combination of internal and external speakers and covers a wide range of topics. We are currently in the process of creating a bespoke Paediatric themed teaching programme for the department.
