Training is based on a two year programme leading to a Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians qualification. You will be required to attend college one day a week via distance learning/ in person, and in the workplace you will undertake a comprehensive in-house training programme provided by our own pharmacy team. You will also have some agreed study time to carry out "off the job training". There is an expectation for the student to undertake some study at home out of working hours. Progression from year one to year two of the course is dependent on successful completion of all assignments and assessments set in year one. This post holder will be based at Walsall hospital for the length of the training.

As a Pre-registration trainee Pharmacy Technician you will work under supervision and rotate through areas to gain knowledge and evidence of competency. You will be measured by your knowledge, skills and behaviours in all areas in line with the qualification you are undertaking.

The areas include dispensary, pharmacy procurement and distribution.

There will also an opportunity for you to observe aseptic dispensing in our aseptic unit and clinical trials dispensing.

You will also progress to work on wards giving a ward based service. This will include assessing the suitability of patient's own drugs, medicine reconciliation and supply and storage of drugs to the wards.

You will also eventually go through an assessment where you will take the responsibility of checking the work of others.

This is a highly complex, highly specialised Clinical Endoscopist role with responsibility for the assessment of care needs for patients within the post holder’s care, diagnosing and treating disease processes identified through the endoscopy pathway. The promotion of clinical excellence in his / her practice through the implementation of research evidence-based care and NICE guidelines.

Being responsible for the day-to-day function of their own caseload, assessing, implementing and directing endoscopy cases. To include liaison with all members of the MDT, patients and their families, and in Clinical Endoscopist led endoscopy sessions.

Work autonomously as a Clinical Endoscopist to deliver a differential diagnostic GI endoscopy service including delivering life-changing diagnoses, initiating treatment, and breaking bad news. The option to develop therapeutic GI endoscopy could be discussed.



Administer local anaesthetic and IV sedation to patients undergoing endoscopy in accordance with Trust policies and group protocols.

Take endoscopic biopsies and update and action histopathology reports in order to form an accurate diagnosis.

Establish safe practice in the delivery of a broad range of therapeutic endoscopic procedures

including highly complex interventions. Provide accurate endoscopy reports to enable appropriate treatment and care.

Occupational Therapist – Intermediate Care Service

SALARY SCALE – BAND 5

37.5 hours per week

Band 5 candidates must have post-graduate experience and must be able to show experience within the NHS.

In 2023, our emergency services department underwent a £40m refurbishment to form our new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre so there has never been a more exciting time to join the Emergency and Acute Care Directorate to shape and influence the care our patients receive. This role will be an excellent fit for those who show an appreciation for service development due to the ongoing current transformation of the pharmacy provision within the EmergencyCare department.



Key responsibilities for the posts will include:

• Developing and providing a clinical practitioner service to patients presenting in A&E

• Providing a specialist advisory service on medicines usage at ward and consultant level.

• Undertaking complex medication reviews and contributing to the MDT assessment

• Partaking in discharge planning and patient counselling whilst arranging for referrals via the national Discharge Medicines Service scheme.

• Assessing and identifying key areas for service development and expansion in conjunction with the Lead Pharmacist for Emergency Care

• Acting as a mentor and role model for junior pharmacists rotating through emergency care

• Post holders will be required to undertake weekend, bank holidays shifts and late nights on a rota basis.



What are we looking for? You will need to have:

• experience of pro-actively influencing prescribing and medicines management within a secondary care environment

• hold a post graduate clinical diploma

• hold (or currently working towards) an independent prescribing qualification

• To always go above and beyond for the team to ensure a collaborative approach in all that we do.

• Experience in service development and implementing change

You must have good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be able to show you are self- motivated and flexible in your approach to your work to meet the requirements for our developing service.

You must already be registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council for a minimum of 2 years and hold or be working towards and independent prescribing qualification.

You are expected to work within key performance indicators as part of the service provision and show you can work on your own initiative, with other Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Assistants, Nursing staff, Medical staff and other healthcare professionals in line with the Hospitals Trust Values.

To support your development, full local training will be provided on medicines management and within an emergency care setting to the successful candidate and your development needs will be identified through an annual individual performance development review.

You will work closely with the Pharmacists and wider multidisciplinary team within the Emergency Department to deliver high quality, patient focused medicines management services.

We are keen to appoint a trainee advanced practitioner with previous Emergency Department experience and prescribing skills, however we also warmly welcome those whom are wishing to progress their career in Emergency Care.
