Incumbent will perform a variety of work involving the operation of motor vehicles in support of the maintenance and repair of roadsides including roads, culverts, bridges, guardrails, etc. Operate diesel and gasoline powered motor vehicles and heavy equipment which typically have a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds; vehicles are usually equipped with air brakes. Operate vehicles, including dump trucks and trash truck, in all kinds of weather over rough terrain, in close quarters, and in heavy traffic. Duties include crack sealing, asphalt patching, refuse/recycling collection, transporting material, and loading trucks with front end loader and/or backhoe. Operate tractors with attached flail and sickle bar mowers to cut grass and brush on shoulders, ditches, and cut banks alongside park roads. Perform operator maintenance on all vehicles operated according to manufacturer and park standards. Complete minor repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment. Perform manual labor tasks such as digging, raking, cleaning drainage ditches, picking up litter, etc.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in the badlands of western North Dakota and includes the Theodore Roosevelt Wilderness Area. The park consists of three separate units: South Unit, Elkhorn Ranch Unit, and North Unit. The colorful Little Missouri River badlands provide a scenic backdrop to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which is home to a variety of plants and abundant wildlife, including bison, elk, wild horses, long horn steers, and bighorn sheep. The park headquarters is located in Medora, North Dakota, where limited medical facilities, shopping, and schools' grades K-12 are located nearby. Complete services and a college are located in Dickinson, 42 miles east of Medora. The North Unit is 70 miles north by road from the South Unit and park headquarters. • Operates heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, chain saws, brush cutters, brush chippers, portable snow blowers, and all types of hand and light power tools (such as shovels, pulaskis, picks, digging bars, rakes, lawn edging equipment, electric drills, etc.), to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc.
• Loads and unloads supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc. Moves furniture, removes and sets signs, paints picnic tables and signs, rakes and waters lawns, trims trees and shrubbery, picks up litter, cleans and repairs fire pits.
• Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where soil is hard and compact and must grade or slope; occasionally breaks up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; fills and levels holes in damaged roads. Moves heavily loaded wheelbarrows and hand trucks; uses heavy type power mowers including adjusting blades, cleaning and oiling. Cuts trees and heavy vegetation with axe, chainsaw, or powered brush cutters; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement, etc., or performs other duties requiring similar judgment and comparable physical effort.

Incumbents to this position will be required to use a variety of hand and power tools to perform trail repair and construction work. Tools included are jackhammers, chainsaws, gas-powered drills, picks, rock-bars, hammers, shovels, and various other hand and power tools.

Major Duties:

• Performs general labor duties in maintenance and repair of backcountry and frontcountry trails to include: cleaning drains and water diversions, benching out trail tread, making crush fill, hauling dirt, mixing concrete and mortar, moving stones, logs, and other materials associated with trail laboring.
• Assists in building a variety of frontcountry and backcountry trail structures such as stone causeways, log turnpikes, log cribbing, stone retention walls, stone liners, log and stone waterbars, rip-rap, and log and stone checks.
• Patches and repairs sections of broken asphalt trails, and shovels snow from sidewalks, steps and paved trails, and assist with construction of paved asphalt trails such as moving and grading hot mix asphalt, compaction of asphalt, shouldering, installing stone liners, and edge tamping.
• Will live and work from remote backcountry settings often living in a spike camp or in a bunk house sharing quarters in close proximity with a diverse work group for extended periods of time, and must be able to hike to remote settings and jobsites often hiking 5-7 miles per day.

Major Duties:

• Incumbents to this position will be required to use a variety of hand and power tools to perform trail repair and construction work. This work is performed in front-country and remote wilderness locations often employing minimum tool standards and techniques.

Represents the SCR in contacts with other IRS officials, representatives of other agencies and officials from the private sector regarding cross functional or building/geographic area-wide administrative support matters and initiatives. Provides key linkage/coordination between customers and providers in ensuring cross-functional support activities and initiatives are carried out. Serves as the primary liaison with service providers requiring information about activities impacting multiple functions within a single location.

Serves as the SCR's principal problem solver for identifying, analyzing, and resolving building/geographic area- wide or multi-functional problems and complex issues. Develops new or 'cutting edge' solutions/courses of action that ensure all related issues are identified and effectively integrated across functional lines as appropriate. Ensures that the appropriate senior leadership/managers or other service providers are alerted of any emerging issues, systemic problems, developing trends, etc. As necessary, coordinates with service providers to implement solutions/courses of action.

Assumes a leadership role in coordinating building/geographic area-wide or cross-functional administrative activities and initiatives. Continually studies, analyzes, and anticipates building/geographic area-wide program activities, initiatives, and/or requirements. As needed, coordinates the development of action plans and schedules for initiating multiple cross-functional projects, including projected personnel, equipment, and/or budget requirements.
