The ESB is a specialised provision which is attended by children who have a diagnosis of autism and other complex needs. “Murrayburn Primary School Enhanced Support Base (ESB) comprises of three classes (within a mainstream primary school) supporting pupils aged 5-12 who have a range of diagnosed additional support needs (ASNs). Almost all pupils have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and many have additional co-existing conditions (e.g. Intellectual Disability; ADHD; Developmental Co-ordination Disorder etc.), which can result in complex learning and behavioural profiles.

We are looking to recruit a part-time Monday to Friday Pupil Support Assistant to work as part of our ESB team. The role would require the successful candidate to work alongside class teachers and nursery nurses to support pupils in their learning, play and general development. Several pupils can present with dysregulated behaviour and require support with toileting and transitions throughout the school day. You may also work 1:1 with a pupil.

The candidates for this position will ideally have had experience working with children with similar ASN profiles in an educational setting. Knowledge of strategies and interventions to support pupils with additional needs and an ability to communicate well and work as part of a class staff team are desirable attributes for applicants. The ability to think creatively and be flexible in your approach to supporting young people are also important qualities when working towards positive outcomes for pupils.

Key Responsibilities

• Working with a team of solicitors and Counsel to engage in a project to consider and analyse voluminous and complex evidence for use by the legal and Counsel team in their investigations.
• Carrying out other tasks required by the inquiry, including providing cover for the wider team of paralegals.
• Attending and participating in regular project planning meetings to discuss the project, as required.

Essential Criteria

• Ability to carry out tasks independently with minimum oversight, remaining calm under pressure.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and in line with legal requirements and the ability to prioritise, organise, manage, store and retrieve information effectively
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and research skills and experience of using these in a legal context.

Desirable Skills

• Good knowledge of Scots Law, the role would suit those with an LLB or in their final year of a Law degree. Alternatively the role may suit those with paralegal experience.

Opened in the early 1970’s to provide secondary education for the North West area of Edinburgh, Craigmount High School draws its students mainly from the areas served by the following primary schools: Corstorphine, East Craigs, Fox Covert, Hillwood and Roseburn.

The Royal High School

Salary: £24,909 - £25,116 (pro rata for part time and sessional)
Hours: 27.5 per week (Monday - Friday), 39 weeks sessional

Based in the West of Edinburgh, The Royal High School is one of the oldest schools in Scotland. It has a strong sense of history, but prides itself on being very much a school of the 21st Century. It is a non-denominational, 6-year comprehensive, with pupils drawn from 4 catchment primary schools: Blackhall, Clermiston, Cramond and Davidson’s Mains. A significant number of placing requests are received each session. Year groups are capped at 220 and the school roll sits around 1260.

The school was the subject of a HMIE inspection in 2007 and local authority follow-through visits in March 2009 and May 2010.

The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) comprises the Rector, four Depute Rectors and the Business Manager.

The current teaching staff complement is 88 FTE with 20 FTE staff other than teachers, including a team of Pupil Support Assistants, who support the integration of pupils. There is an integrated Additional Support for Learning Team combining the former Guidance and Support for Learning teams. In line with the Authority’s integration policies, the school caters for a wide variety of physical, sensory and learning needs. This has been highly successful and forms a key element of our social inclusion strategy.

The school was refurbished in 2004 and enjoys a high standard of accommodation, although social areas are limited and teaching space has to be rigorously timetabled. The facilities are used extensively outside of normal school hours by the school, the RHS Club and the community; the school is designated a Community Sports Hub and the PE facilities were refurbished in 2015 to support this. There is an excellent extra-curricular programme, with partner clubs and staff offering a range of opportunities in which young people can participate. ICT facilities are very good and S3-6 pupils all have access to a 1:1 iPad device to support their learning at home and in school.

The school has positive links with parents, local businesses and the local community. The Parent Council and School Fundraising Group play an important role in the life and work of the school. Meetings are well attended and discussions are always lively and informative. The school is also supported by an active Former Pupils’ Club.
