Job Description Summary

We are actively recruiting candidates to participate in our 2024 On-site Summer Internship program. This program is roughly 12 weeks in length and will immerse you into the culture and operations of Lonza Portsmouth. This role will work within the Utilities Engineering department and will help execute improvements to help Lonza achieve it’s ambitions in becoming more sustainable by helping to reduce our carbon footprint, to reduce the consumption of energy and water, and/or reduce waste generation.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for driving climate action and will have some experience with controls and automation.

The internship program begins Tuesday, May 28, 2024 and ends on Friday, August 16, 2024. Potential interns must be able to commit to at least 40 hours per week throughout the duration of the summer internship.

Required Education

• Engineering degree (Chemical, Industrial, Electrical, etc.) or related coursework required
• Completion of junior year (typically 90 credits) towards a B.S. degree in a related field (electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar field)
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (out of 4) required
• Must currently be enrolled in BS or MS Academic Program
• Must be available to begin the Internship on Tuesday, May 28, 2024

Our Lonza Portsmouth site is a clinical-to-commercial, multi-product manufacturing facility located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, only 56 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts. The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing a variety of projects including Supply Chain Transformation, Growth Projects, and smaller projects for the supply chain operations. The role is cross-functional comprising of managing matrixed teams of supply chain, quality, and manufacturing to achieve key milestones and project objectives.  Additionally this person will lead continuous improvement initiatives for the department and be a champion for a continuous improvement mindset for the department

Key Responsibilities:

• Implementing process improvements across the organization, specifically concentrating on change management and documentation
• Project Manager is responsible for controlling and monitoring the status and progress of projects in Supply Chain.  This is critical to assure that the project is on track and any issues can be proactively managed.  Risk Management techniques shall also be used to manage risks on the project.
• Governance and oversight of the transformation of the Supply Chain function of the site to ensure optimal and standardized usage of the defined Supply Chain process landscape to unveil maximum optimization potential for the Biologics function.
• Lead a multi-disciplinary project team for the transformation of the Supply Chain function of the Lonza Portsmouth site.
• Drive the establishment and optimization of the following process areas:  Supply Chain core/main process landscape, Integrated Business Planning (Supply Planning) and detailed scheduling.
• Lead and establish necessary change management measures to ensure a smooth transition towards a high performing Supply Chain function, including necessary knowledge transfer
• Develop, drive and accountable Supply Chain improvements and standardization ensuring full adherence to all processes
• Provide leadership in defining best practices and applying project management standards.
• Be the departments LBMS leader and drive LBMS principles across the department
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to prioritize projects, address project changes, and evaluate options. Mobilizing resources and executing timelines based on business needs and requirements
• Conduct internal and external Project Team Meetings to ensure that all stakeholders are working in accordance to the agreed to Project Plan

Key Requirements:

• 6+ years in Supply Chain focused leadership position
• 2+ years of Project Management experience, with extensive cross functional support

The Automation & MES Support Specialist will focus on supporting internal customers who use Syncade and DeltaV. This role is also responsible for assisting in performing tasks associated with the creation, maintenance, and upkeep of the Syncade and DeltaV Systems.

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct system troubleshooting on Syncade, and Controls system
• Support floor activities as required to bring running records to successful process conclusion.
• Work closely with Controls and Syncade Supervisors to develop and revise DeltaV Logic, batch records and eDispense records in a timely manner.

• Perform testing and validation activities for Syncade and DeltaV changes.

• Perform tasks related to execution of Process Change Controls and closure of CAPAs. Assess and incorporate Material Masters and general material properties from SAP.
• Develop technical knowledge on manufacturing equipment and processes automation systems
• Support resolution of equipment breakdowns and quality issues in the suites with assistance
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Key requirements:

• Certificate/ ASC/ BS in science related discipline preferred and 1+ years experience in biotech work environment
• Biotech manufacturing experience of at least 3 years; Prior experience of Controls/MES protocol preferred.
• Some prior knowledge of Biotech manufacturing Controls and/or MES software preferred

The CAPEX Project Engineer role supports ongoing Lonza operations through the management of capital projects. The engineer is responsible to ensure that equipment and facilities are designed and constructed to meet operational needs.  Responsibilities of the role include implementation of engineering projects to support site and manufacturing requirements. CAPEX project engineer is responsible for scope, schedule and budget of assigned projects.

Site Project Manager:

• Execute all aspects of project scoping, initiation, execution, and closeout
• Provide project leadership using engineering principles to support design and scope for of wide range of scales:
  • Strategic site CAPEX projects
  • Recapitalization projects
  • Customer Tech Transfers

• Initiate EDCRs for updates to Engineering documents including engineering drawings

Training:

• Remain up to date on all assigned training activities including Cornerstone Learning Portal (>90%), ComplianceWire (no overdue), iComply (no overdue), and QSMRT (attend all sessions)

Key requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred
• Experience working in a Pharma/Biotech related environment
• Ability to handle multiple projects (3-5) simultaneously, keeping track of costs and schedule and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.  Use organizational skills to prioritize and resolve project issues.  Ability to evaluate solutions and recommend action based on meeting scope, schedule, and budget.
