We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, conscientious and enthusiastic individual to join our Planning Applications team. This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation focused on delivering a high-quality planning service to provide growth and development in accordance with our adopted Local Plan. You will need to be able to weigh up the competing demands of different interests against a policy framework – securing sustainable development which also protects and enhances our environment and heritage. You will manage your own caseload of applications, appeals, enforcement and pre application enquiries and deal with varied and challenging cases.

You will have a Planning-related degree and would be expected to learn and develop in the role, with the potential to undertake a part-time Masters degree in Planning to progress for attainment of Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Main Duties:

To manage and assess planning applications and pre-application submissions in accordance with planning law, national and local policy and guidance.
Processing planning applications to completion.
Providing professional planning advice to applicants, ward councillors and internal stakeholders.
Communication and engagement with members of the public, non-statutory consultees, parish councils and objectors.
Negotiation and communication with developers and statutory consultees on complex planning matters.
Weighing up all material planning considerations and making decisions based on professional applied and theoretical knowledge and experience, with the production of reports and decision notices.

Essential Requirements:

An understanding of planning law, policy and guidance.
Planning related degree.
Strong communication skills at all levels, developing the ability to explain planning principles to those without planning knowledge and represent the planning authority in meetings with stakeholders.
Interpersonal, negotiation and diplomatic skills when engaging with individuals, developers, statutory and non-statutory consultees, and internal and external parties.
Creativity to resolve problems and potential conflict between developers and objectors and thus achieve positive outcomes for all parties.
Ability to understand and appreciate material planning considerations, applying professional judgement in weighing these competing considerations, with the ability to objectively assess and conclude in a clear and precise manner.
Ability to manage your own workload and commitment to meeting deadlines.
This post requires you to have a full driving licence and own transport with business insurance or requires travelling to sites in a timely manner equivalent to motor travel in your own car.

Thanet District Council is looking to recruit a Homeless Officer.

We are particularly proud of our proactive approach to supporting residents with finding solutions to their housing difficulties.

As a Homeless Officer you will be responsible for giving advice and assistance to homeless applicants under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, producing personalised housing plans with a focus on homelessness prevention to relieve households homelessness, in line with the homeless legislation, case law and council policy objectives and priorities. You will have your own case load and assess applications from homeless households and those threatened with homelessness by carrying out various roles including interviews, undertaking comprehensive investigations and compiling detailed S184 decisions in line with Part VII Housing Act 1996.

You will participate in an Out of Hours service rota tailoring questions in order to gather sufficient information to make a judgement on whether or not to provide emergency accommodation out of Office hours.
