About the Corporate Support Manager role:

Corporate Support Manager is integral to the National Museums Scotland playing a vital role at the heart of the organisation ensuring a consistent approach to business processes. You will be working with the Executive Team and Board of Trustees, supporting our relationships internally and externally including with the Scottish Government Culture Liaison team. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about the arts, history, heritage and corporate governance with good organisational skills.

As our Corporate Support Manager at National Museums Scotland you will:


Co-ordinate the development of the Strategic Plan
Provide a framework for, and supporting the development and communication of, departmental plans and relevant performance measures
Facilitate the development of other key corporate policies and procedures (e.g. Gaelic Language Plan)
Support the Board of Trustees and the Executive Team in the fulfilment of their responsibilities for the corporate governance of National Museums Scotland
Horizon scan and communicate up-to-date understanding of national and sector policy developments, ensuring the organisation responds accordingly and contributes to the formation of policy through consultations and networks
Provide administration and secretarial support for Board of Trustee meetings
Line manage our Executive Assistants.


Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Corporate Support Manager:


Extensive experience in Business Administration
Experience of providing support and guidance for the corporate governance of a large organisation
Able to develop, implement and operate a comprehensive performance management approach to corporate planning and delivery
Up-to-date knowledge of corporate planning and business performance processes
Good knowledge of corporate governance issues
Good knowledge of the public policy agenda for heritage/leisure/arts/culture in Scotland

Textile Conservation Intern | Full time | 35 hours | Fixed term 12M

About the Textile Conservation Intern role:

Your role will join our team working under the guidance of the experienced Textile Conservators. You will gain experience from and contribute to a range of textile conservation activities to prepare our truly diverse collection for display. You will have the opportunity during the year to attend a major conference or workshop relevant to your skills development.

As a Textile Conservation Intern at National Museums Scotland you will:


Develop and consolidate practical conservation skills by carrying out treatments, under supervision of a textile conservator
Take part in Preventive Conservation activities, including environment, pest monitoring and deep cleaning, under supervision of the Collections Care team
Assist with condition surveys
Undertake supervised conservation research and study, where relevant, to extend skills and experience
Assist with written and photographic documentation of treatments undertaken.


Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Textile Conservation Intern:


A relevant degree (MPhil or MA) in textile conservation (or will have submitted by 25.09.24 with an expected pass)
Demonstrable practical skills and manual dexterity
Good conservation documentation and reporting skills

About the Driver/Support Assistant role:

This is a varied role based at our Collections Centre in Granton as well as the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street. This role is all about providing operational support in the warehouses and includes: general warehousing/porterage; manual handling and/or the use of materials handling equipment to move, materials, furniture, equipment and crated/palletised objects; reception / security duties and activities such as escorting of contract personnel and janitorial services.

As a Driver/Support Assistant at National Museums Scotland you will:


Drive vehicles – 3.5 tonne Luton van, transit van and all-terrain vehicle
Carry out general warehouse duties including: materials, equipment and Museum object moves, contractor escorting and janitorial duties
Provide reception services registering NMS personnel, visitors and contractors
Monitor CCTV, intruder and fire system (training provided)
Carry out site health and safety checks.


Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Driver/Support Assistant:


Full clean manual driving licence
Manual handling and materials handling experience
Warehouse reception and security experience
Knowledge of Health & Safety at work procedures.
