The Science Technician will be required to offer technical support to the science department's teachers, ensuring the department operates smoothly. They must ensure that all equipment functions correctly and safely for practical science lessons. Prior experience in a similar role is crucial, as is a solid understanding of scientific concepts and workplace health and safety.
Specific tasks will vary according to the term, however typical duties include:
• Carrying out risk assessments for practical and technical activities
• Preparing necessary solutions and equipment for practical experiments
• Maintaining, repairing and taking inventory of apparatus
• Liaising with staff over equipment and safety issues
• Running trials of experiments and demonstrations
• Supporting the overall work of the Science Department

Your main responsibilities will include ensuring stock levels are maintained and the ordering of materials is carried out within the remit of managing a tight budget. Staff and learners are fully supported to ensure teaching, learning and assessment activities are effectively delivered. The college is seeking to appoint a technician to support the delivery of the Science curriculum within the school of Care at the City of Newport Campus.
Your main responsibilities will include ensuring stock levels are maintained and the ordering of materials is carried out within the remit of managing a tight budget. Staff and learners are fully supported to ensure teaching, learning and assessment activities are effectively delivered. Equipment is cleaned and the laboratories run efficiently on a day-to-day basis. The successful candidate must have the ability to work closely as part of a team and also ensure Health & Safety is adhered to at all times.

As a Science Technician you will work in the Science Department. The core function of the role is to provide technical support to the work of the teachers in the Science Department.
A key factor in the success of any Science Department, Science Technicians enable the smooth running of the department by ensuring that apparatus is operating properly and safely for the use in practical Science lessons.
Specific tasks will vary according to the term, however typical duties include:
Carrying out risk assessments for practical and technical activities
Preparing necessary solutions and equipment for practical experiments
Maintaining, repairing and taking inventory of apparatus
Liaising with staff over equipment and safety issues
Running trials of experiments and demonstrations
Supporting the overall work of the Science Department
Carrying out administrative tasks to support teachers.
You will need: 5 GCSEs at A*-C (or equivalent) including English and Maths, Some previous relevant experience of working in a similar roleSome experience of health and safety in the work place and ideally good scientific knowledge.The basis of this role is permanent working 37 hours per week (5 days per week) term time, + 1 week of INSET days (39 weeks in total) and offering an actual salary of £20,551 - £21,605 (approximately). (FTE £23,893 - £25,119 FTE, WAT grade D pt. 6-9).

We are looking for a technician coach to join the Health team. As technician coach, you will be responsible and accountable for the health and safety of the specialist ward and laboratory, inventory, stock control and issuing of classroom materials to support teaching staff, and supporting small groups of learners with practical skills and progress.
You will lead and manage the relevant areas and stock, as well as supporting the department with learner progress, experience and practical skills, leading to wider participation and excellent achievement in various vocational courses offered in the department.
