The laboratory of Dr. Tang Hong-Wen within the Signature Research Programme in Cancer and Stem Cell Biology (CSCB) at Duke-NUS is recruiting a Research Assistant with strong enthusiasm and interest in muscles and muscle stem cells. The Tang lab’s scientific focus is to understand how muscle functions get impaired during aging and tumorigenesis. The Duke-NUS Laboratory for Translational and Molecular Imaging (LTMI), Duke-NUS Medical School, is recruiting a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to lead state-of-the-art small animal imaging studies in Viral Infectious Disease. LTMI aims to develop local infrastructure and deep capabilities in the development of molecular imaging technologies for guiding the advancement and translation of new imaging biomarkers to guide novel therapeutics in viral infectious disease.

The successful candidate will lead pre-clinical imaging efforts to validate novel imaging probes that target potential biomarkers of viral infection and host response. He/She will be responsible for the strategic planning, execution and communication of research. Candidates with strong records of scientific accomplishment in radiopharmaceutical sciences, immunology or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Lead mouse model development and characterisation of viral disease.

Prof Derek Hausenloy’s laboratory aims to discover new treatments for protecting the heart from acute ischaemia/reperfusion injury and for preventing heart failure. We use a translational approach to research comprising cell models, rodent models (atherosclerosis, acute myocardial infarction and heart failure), nanoparticles for delivery of therapeutics to the ischaemic heart, and clinical studies.

Responsibilities 

• Establish and manage large databases.
• Interpret and analyse data
• Generate reports and presentation of data to relevant stakeholders
• Generate conference presentations and papers for submission to peer reviewed journals
• Collaborate across teams, contributing to multiple research projects at once
• Work closely with research PIs to develop new research ideas and ensure the successful and timely completion of the project(s)

Qualifications

Strategic Leadership and Operational Oversight:

Qualifications

• Assist CAG research projects and activities, and support CAG Senior Research Fellows and Faculty Associates in their research projects
• Prepare background briefs, presentations, and track specific issues
• Conduct independent research, and write academic and policy research papers and reports

Job Requirements

Job Description

• To perform safety-related work such as

(a) Conduct safety training / briefing for personnel who needs to work in the cleanroom;

(b) Carry out periodic emergency response drill to familiarize personnel with standard evacuation and response procedure;

(c) Carry out periodic inspection of safety facility such as eyewash & shower, chemical spill absorbent, fire extinguisher, etc.

(d) To monitor users’ activities on CCTV for any irregularities.

• To respond to an emergency call during and after office hour. The emergencies can be a building fire alarm, a fab evacuation alarm which can be a hazardous material spill or a leak or a medical emergency situation.
• To assess the situation and discuss a coordinated response plan with both Safety Manager and Lab Manager based on Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
• To be on standby / on-site for ad-hoc / extended hours lab operations request;
• To learn and have some understand of the chemistry for each individual tools and new projects to ensure Industrial Hygiene for the lab and users are met.
• To follow up, understand changes and make assessment on the safety aspect for tool continuous improvement process (CIP)
• To liaise with supplier for maintenance / procurement of ERT equipment / supplies;
• To perform risk assessments for the research activities related to E5 Cleanroom process and equipment.
• Support the development and implementation of Safety & Health Management System for AMAT-NUS Corp Lab conducting materials research.
• To support on Safety audits
• Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Diploma/ Degree knowledge and demonstrated experience in the laboratory safety management.
• Awareness of local safety regulations and some experience in developing and implementing Workplace Safety & Health Management System and Programmes.
• Understanding of the scientific and safety-related issues of materials research protocols and ability to review the risk assessments of such protocols.
• Knowledge and understanding of material safety principles, policies, and procedures.
• Effective communication (verbal and technical writing) skills, excellent customer service skills with attention to detail.
• Well verse with Microsoft office and good documentation control. IT application knowledge will be an advantage.
