CAMHS Inpatient service – The Lookout

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the therapeutic team at the Lookout Child and Adolescent inpatient unit. We currently have a vacancy for an Band 8a, Clinical Psychologists full time (37.5 hours per week). We would also consider developing this role as a preceptorship post Band 7-8a and welcome applications from trainee clinical psychologists due to qualify in 2025.

The Lookout is a purpose-built unit and consists of three wards, (general admissions, eating disorders and Psychiatric intensive care) supporting young people aged 13 to 18. We have an onsite school and provide a range of recreational activities for our young people, including baking, music and trips out (we even had a reindeer visit at Christmas).

Despite the apparent specialist nature of the post, it offers an opportunity to use all the transferable skills gained through training in a rewarding setting.

The post will be part of the wider psychology provision serving all three inpatient units (covering general, PICU and eating disorders) and will be supported by senior colleagues including the Lead Clinical Psychologist.

Your main duties include:

Providing specialist psychological assessment of young people who reside within the Lookout facility.
Working with the MDT to implement psychological interventions for clients, their families and care systems.
Providing specialist psychological advice and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to client’s formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
Providing Supervision to staff.
Taking an active role in service development and research.
Providing formal and informal training relating to psychological and mental health issues.

The postholder will become part of the psychology team serving all three inpatient units (covering general, PICU and eating disorders) and will be supported by senior colleagues including the Lead Clinical Psychologist. You will work with a varied caseload of young people

Psychologists are encouraged to pursue a range of CPD to further develop their skills. As a team we meet regularly for CPD and psychology specific business meetings. recent psychology training opportunities have included, DDP and CFT. There is also provision for peer supervision and specialist supervision where required. Clinical supervision is highly valued and Band 8a psychologists will be offered monthly supervision from a clinical psychologist. If entering the role as a band 7 preceptor, clinical supervision will be offered fortnightly for a period of time until it would transition to monthly.

Working on the units offers Psychologists the opportunity to work intensively with young people. The unit provides a holistic support package and young people benefit from accessing wider disciplines including occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, social work, psychiatry and nursing. You will hold a small caseload and work alongside a range of therapists including systemic, arts therapists and DBT. You will be key in shaping MDT care plans and developing and sharing formulations. In addition to 1:1 work you will be encouraged to consider and support team dynamics. For example, there will be opportunities to provide reflective practice groups, compassionate leadership and staff training.

Psychology is a well-respected discipline within the units and together the MDT has worked to create a psychologically informed environment. This is a great place to be a psychologist.

We work closely with psychologists across Nottinghamshire CAMHS and as such you would benefit from the integrated, friendly, and supportive group of over 15 Psychologists. These work in a variety of services including Community, Children Looked After services and other specialist services. There are good opportunities for joint projects, research and shadowing across all areas of CAMHS. There are good links with the DClinpsy courses at Trent, Sheffield and Leicester University. We are currently hosting Clinical trainees, Masters students and CAPs and would encourage the post holder to develop their supervision experience.

There is a monthly CAMHS research group that you may join if interested, which facilitates the development of both internal research ideas as well as larger multi-site studies.

Experience of working within or closely with inpatient services would be helpful but not essential.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the Hopewood team as their new Activity Co-Ordinator, we are looking for two individuals one to work on Pegasus our specialist eating disorders ward and one to work on Hercules the CAMHS PICU.

The role will involve working with patients on the wards and with the ward therapy and nursing teams to plan and facilitate daily individual and group activity programmes, which provide therapeutic and meaningful social and physical activities, enhancing patient's quality of life and supporting their physical and psychological well-being.

Activities would generally be ward based however there is opportunity to organise and facilitate activities off the ward with patients. The time of work would be flexible, on Hercules including doing later evenings to facilitate evening activities if this was deemed appropriate, helpful, and supportive to patient recovery. Pegasus would be 9-5 Monday to Friday.

The role will involve working with young people with mental health issues, which will require you to be creative in your approach, dynamic in understanding and assessing risk and developing ideas in engaging young people in activity and making these activities meaningful.

You will need to be able to work under your own initiative with guidance from the Ward Manager, Occupational Therapist Nursing, and wider Therapy team.

Under the guidance of a registered Occupational Therapist (OT) and the Ward Manager you will be expected to assist in the delivery of therapeutic activities for young people. This will include a range of creative social and physical activities, to be carried out in the ward environment and the local community.

As part of your role, you will be required to use your own resourcefulness, engage, form rapport and motivate people to participate in activities.

Candidates should be respectful, non-judgemental, creative and have good communication and problem-solving skills, Experience of working with people with a mental health need is desirable although not essential.

Supervision will be provided for the role, and you will link into an Activity Co-coordinators network to gain opportunities for support and training.

Aims of CAMHS SPA

SPA provides a single point of access for referrals into CAMHS for children and young people who have a Nottinghamshire based GP. The service provides a safe, accountable, and governed process for receiving professional and self-referrals, as well as screening and triaging new referrals to obtain additional contextual informtaion around mental health presentations. In addition, you will need to identify any risk factors and provide minimising risk advice, psychoeducational support and prompt decision making to identify the most appropriate service to meet the presenting needs at the given time. Thereby, enabling, facilitating and recommending the right offer, the right service, at the right time to meet the emotional and mental health presenting needs. This requires close working relationships and understanding of universal services within Nottinghamshire, as well as the specialist CAMHS provision, to enable informed decision making.

Daily structures are in place to meet the demands of SPA through task allocation meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings, referral meetings, as well as designated allocated time within the working day to carry out triage calls and others functionalities of the SPA service.

There is an expectation that the successful applicant will access clinical, managerial, and safeguarding supervision and attend complex case discussions, peer support sessions and share knowledge and training with colleagues within the team.

CAMHS SPA Family Support Worker

The CAMHS SPA Family Support Worker will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary SPA Team, offering screening, triage, psychoeducation, harm reduction advice under supervision and containment to children, young people, their family/carers, and other professionals presenting with emotional and mental health difficulties.

You will be experienced in identifying emotional and mental health presentations and have an extensive knowledge around CAMHS provisions, as well as external services, to ensure that the CYP accesses the right pathway, at the right time.

You will work with a variety of agencies including social care, other health agencies, education/schools, acute hospitals, and adult mental health services to ensure a quality service is provided.

You must hold a relevant qualification or have significant CAMHS experience. You will be required to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for business use for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

The role is highly rewarding, but fast paced with many referrals received into the team daily. The job can be demanding so you will be required to be motivated, resilient, and work flexibly to meet service need. Service opening hours are between 8am – 6pm on a rota pattern and on occasion you will be expected to work outside of these hours should need dictate.

Consultants share an on-call rota (currently on a 1 in 8 basis) across the whole of central Nottinghamshire at night, weekends and public holidays. There is a second senior tier of on-call rota provided by Specialist Trainees. This is remunerated at a rate of 2%.

Consultants are required to participate in clinical audit and are also required to attend and to contribute to teaching meetings held weekly during academic term, usually alternative case presentation and journal club discussions.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is highly valued within the Trust. The directorate has a system of peer group supervision / CPD and supporting activity sessions are included in each Consultant’s job plan to support this. In addition, appropriate study leave will be supported and there is a notional annual budget of up to £1,000 per Consultant for approved CPD activities.

The post holder will be required to undergo an annual appraisal. Job planning is carried out by the Clinical Director. It will be mandatory for the post holder to join a Peer Review Group to MHSOP, to develop and oversee the conduct of Personal Development Plans.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare is a major provider of specialist mental health services for older people in Nottingham City and the wider county. The service caters to the needs of all people suffering from dementia, regardless of age; and those, aged over 65 years, presenting with severe and enduring mental health illnesses, such as depression.

Services are provided in an in-patient and community basis and comprise of the following teams:
• Intensive Home Treatment Team (IHTT)
• Rapid Response Liaison Psychiatry (RRLP)
• Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT)
• Memory Assessment Services (MAS)
• Young Onset Dementia Service (YOD)
• Dementia Outreach Services (Residential and Nursing Homes) (DOS)
• Psychological Therapies

Consultants share an on-call rota (currently on a 1 in 8 basis) across the whole of central Nottinghamshire at night, weekends and public holidays. There is a second senior tier of on-call rota provided by Specialist Trainees. This is remunerated at a rate of 2%.

Consultants are required to participate in clinical audit and are also required to attend and to contribute to teaching meetings held weekly during academic term, usually alternative case presentation and journal club discussions.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is highly valued within the Trust. The directorate has a system of peer group supervision / CPD and supporting activity sessions are included in each Consultant’s job plan to support this. In addition, appropriate study leave will be supported and there is a notional annual budget of up to £1,000 per Consultant for approved CPD activities.

The post holder will be required to undergo an annual appraisal. Job planning is carried out by the Clinical Director. It will be mandatory for the post holder to join a Peer Review Group to MHSOP, to develop and oversee the conduct of Personal Development Plans.

Day to Day Duties:
• Caseload management for patients living in the community, and acting as care coordinator.

The post holder will use expert knowledge and experience to educate and support patients and their carers regarding their dietary management. The post holder will provide specialist nutritional and dietetic advice, support, clinical assessment and education to patients/carers, nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will also be responsible for providing advice around good nutritional care into MHSOP community services.

The Clinical Lead Dietitian will contribute to further service development, policy writing and lead on delegated service development projects.

You will need to have a good general education to GCSE (or equivalent) level including English Language.
