KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Leadership and Strategic Support
- Support the CEO and Trust Board in achieving strategic objectives and uphold Trust values through visible leadership.
- Provide financial expertise and support in Trust strategic planning, financial strategies, and self-evaluation processes.
- Lead financial planning for new schools and growth initiatives, ensuring smooth integration into Trust systems.

2. Financial Oversight and Compliance
- Oversee and manage the Trust's financial systems, ensuring compliance with Trust policies, ESFA regulations, and financial best practices.
- Provide accurate financial reports, forecasts, and budget projections for the Trust Board, Finance Committee, and stakeholders.
- Lead procurement processes and maintain efficient finance systems to ensure value for money across the Trust.

3. Team Management and Development
- Lead and manage the finance team, including recruitment, training, and ongoing professional development.
- Support Headteachers and finance contributors across the Trust to ensure they meet financial objectives and comply with finance policies.

4. Performance Monitoring and Standards
- Monitor financial performance of Trust academies, identify improvement areas, and ensure actions are taken to support school effectiveness.

- Engage with external agencies, regulatory bodies, and local authorities to enhance Trust performance and compliance.

5. Growth and Development
- Conduct financial due diligence and risk assessments for new or transferring schools, ensuring comprehensive project management and smooth transitions.
- Support resource generation strategies to secure additional funding and resources for Trust development.

6. Financial Systems and Reporting
- Ensure the effectiveness of finance management systems, including budget planning, capital investments, and cash flow management.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly and annual accounts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
- Manage compliance with regulatory requirements for audits, VAT, pensions, and financial statements.

7. Stakeholder Relationships and Collaboration
- Develop strong relationships with ESFA, DfE, local authorities, and Trust personnel to promote effective communication and knowledge sharing.
- Provide financial advice and professional accounting expertise to staff, ensuring capability across finance operations.

This is an exciting time for the Trust as we realise our ambition to build on our existing outstanding school, Wootton Park School and develop the Trust to include additional outstanding schools in Northampton and the surrounding areas. Northampton Free School Trust currently comprises of two schools with a third proposed for 2027.

The role:

We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer to take the lead on Trust Finances. The position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will take a seat within the Executive Leadership Team alongside Academy Heads, the Chief Operating Officer and Trust Executive.

The position will enjoy the full support and professional challenge you need to succeed and will report into the full Trust Board and the Finance and Resource committee on a regular basis.

This position will also lead and line manage a finance team, which currently consists of three part-time Finance Assistants and a Finance Manager.

The Trust in its current position on its journey of growth, is open to discussing flexibility of hours and an agile working pattern that considers attendance at the Trust/Academy office and use of Teams. It is acknowledged that as the Trust grows, so will the role. Any part-time hours will likely grow incrementally with the needs and demands of the role.

Operational Leadership The Director of Mental Health is essential to ensuring that the evolving Mental Health Strategy remains a key priority within the Trust, with continuous visibility, and will be pivotal in shaping the local and national direction for mental health services. Summary of responsibilities: To Lead the MHLDA Operational Directorate in providing high quality and outcomes focused services. To lead the Moving Ahead project which contains the PCREF work for NHFT and links to system inequalities forums / boards. Accountable for the delivery of high-quality services to patients and their families/ carers including the management of clinical governance, quality, CQC requirements, professional standards and risk within services. To work with the Chief Operating Officer to set the vision for operational services within NHFT. To ensure that co production is embedded in daily operational work and feeds into the MHLDA PEG. To lead the teams in working within the contractual I statements that have been developed through co production with people who use our services. To line manage the Directorate Management Team (DMT), ensuring efficient, effective management from DMT members, leading the culture of open, reflective and solution focused multi-disciplinary working. To lead the teams in the CQC processes working with corporate colleagues to ensure the services are prepared and confident in sharing their outstanding work and fostering a continuous learning and improvement culture. Maintain and enhance operational performance to deliver improved outcomes as per commissioner contractual standards and national/local priorities. Participate in risk management, including the relevant areas of the risk register and assurance framework. To ensure lived experience is a central voice to the collaboratives progression and outcomes. To work with partners across the system to reduce inequalities and improve health outcomes for people within the MHLDA population. To have oversight of the VCSE contracts within the MHLDA Contract ensuring partnership working and shared outcomes of high-quality, person-centred services that respond to need not degrees of illness. To lead on system wide transformations for MHLDA engaging wide groups of partners to work together to improve outcomes and embed transformed pathways that have a longer-term focus. To work with regional and national colleagues to champion and improve MHLDA policy and practice. To lead the Transforming Care Agenda for the system ensuring application of targets and goals to improve access, treatment and support for LDA community. Establishes effective relationships with commissioners, medical colleagues, and local GPs to ensure the delivery of the mental health strategy and to ensure partnership working in the development services. Resource Management Ensures effective utilisation of all resources within the mental health directorate to maximise the efficiency of bed capacity, estates utilisation and community service delivery. Accountable for the management of the mental health staffing budget. Leads the analysis of current mental health resource and talent levels to ensure current and future demands are met. Forecast future operational needs within mental health service provision and ensure plans are in place to meet this need.

Delivering Clinical Excellence Prepare reports for the Clinical Director and Divisional Manager on Governance & compliance as required.
