We are seeking a passionate and detail/process-oriented Identity and Access Manager to establish and grow our IAM function. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the successful administration, configuration, and maintenance of our identity and access management platforms. You will work closely with stakeholders across CAG to ensure secure and seamless access to systems and resources for all users, while upholding data privacy and regulatory compliance.



Responsibilities:


Implement, configure, and manage our identity and access management (IAM) platforms (Entra + Okta/Auth0),
Work in lockstep with the Security team to develop and maintain comprehensive access policies and procedures, aligning with industry best practices and internal security standards.
Work with the security engineering teams to ensure corrective action is managed if risks are identified.
Collaborate with the Technology teams to integrate IAM functionalities with internal systems and applications.
Provide technical support and guidance to users on identity and access management procedures.
Manage and support the delivery of the Technology IAM strategy
Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and innovations in IAM technology and best practices.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of our IAM infrastructure and processes.
Enhance User Experience : Identify and implement enhancements to improve user experience through automation and simplification
Ensure the IAM platform remains within the agreed design, highlighting the changes that will cause technical drift from the approved patterns.
Ensure User Access Reviews and completed within time, including corrective actions.




Skills & Knowledge Required:


Minimum 5 years experience in identity and access management, preferably with hands-on experience in relevant platforms (e.g., Okta/Auth0, Entra ID,).
Strong understanding of IAM concepts, including authentication, authorisation, user provisioning, and access control.
Experience is maintaining, creating and updating Active Directory Trees, Forests and OUs.
Experience with Microsoft Entra Identity and Governance, or Azure Identity Lifecycle.
Proficiency in configuring SSO for applications in Entra using SAML/OAUTH/OIDC
Knowledge of the RBAC model for Entra role assignments
Expertise in Identity Access Management for Azure Subscriptions, Azure AD, Azure AD Connect, and Azure AD Pass-Through Authentication
Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex IAM issues.
Experience working with ServiceNow incident, problem, and change modules.

What you will be doing

Fort Cumberland Laboratories provides a national facility for the study of the historic environment through time, delivering applied research and advice to Historic England, the English Heritage Trust through a shared service agreement and to the wider sector. It holds unique scientific reference collections, an array of equipment and facilities, and comprises a multi-disciplinary team of heritage scientists who also deliver teaching and supervision of undergraduate/postgraduate students and manage learning placements for external clients.

We require a Collections Access Manager to develop physical and digital access and use of Historic England’s research and reference collections and those of Portsmouth Museums. You will be ensure the accessibility, preservation, and promotion of the collections to maximise their research potential, meet sector needs and ensure their long‑term preservation. This will involve managing the physical and digital collection resources and coordinating the development of outreach initiatives to engage diverse audiences. The role requires strong project management skills and a passion for cultural heritage to foster meaningful connections between collections and their users.

You will play a key role in the delivery of the Heritage Science Collections Hub: South (which is part of the Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science (RICHeS) programme, funded by the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) through the UKRI Infrastructure Fund.

As part of this project, you will review the collections Historic England and Portsmouth Museums hold and their catalogued status, creating an action plan to improve their accessibility under the direction of the Archaeological Archives Principal and in close collaboration with internal and external specialist collection curators. You will also work to improve and expand access to the collections, facilities and expertise enabling their study under the direction of the Head of Fort Cumberland Laboratories.

You will work up to 20% of your time with colleagues at Portsmouth Museums reporting to the Head of Service. You will also work closely with the Heritage Science Technician, based at Fort Cumberland, and with technical staff based in sister collection hubs at the University of Sheffield and University of Aberdeen.

Please note that:

The role requires regular travel, including overnight stays for joint working, attending meetings and training.

The work entails reasonable lifting of heavy/bulky objects within published health and safety guidelines on manual handling.

Proven experience in working with collections, collections management, access facilitation, or cultural resource management

The Job role will include:

• You will be commercially astute and able to manage P&L, WiP and debt.
• You will also have good people management skills and will be directly responsible for a team of engineers and support staff.
• We are looking for someone who ideally has a technical qualification and a sound understanding of both mechanical & electrical engineering in critical environments.
• Experience of being HV AP would be advantageous but is not essential

You will be working within our Strategic Commissioning Programme Team, responsible for delivering a programme of work over the
