Aberdeen City Council Environmental Health Commercial Team works to implement the Council’s statutory responsibility for delivering Environmental Health Services in food law. We are looking for a talented and suitably qualified applicant to join us as an Authorised Officer. Applicants with knowledge and experience in food law would be an advantage. However, for those looking to start a career in food law enforcement, there is the opportunity to join the team as a Trainee Authorised Officer and additional training will be provided. The successful applicant will be involved in a wide variety of food law activities in Aberdeen City and be required to undertake food law interventions; carry out food complaint investigations; provide advice on food and nutrition labelling and matters related to allergens; issue food export certification; undertake food fraud investigations and inspect vessels requiring ship sanitation certification. You will be responsible for ensuring that statutory requirements are complied with, taking enforcement action where necessary and implementing Council policies, with a view to ensuring that risks to public health and safety are adequately controlled, encouraging compliance with the law and enhancement of public health through promotion, education and advice at all levels. The post will require occasional out of hours work. Applicants must hold the Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection and the Higher Certificate in Food Standards Inspection or the Higher Certificate in Food Practice or a relevant food science qualification, such as BSc (Hons) Food, Nutrition, and Human Health, HNC/HND or equivalent in Food Science/Food Technology. A current full UK driving licence is also essential. You must be committed to working in a team, be able to deliver a high-quality service, work to deadlines and have good IT skills.
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
Authorised Officer -
The Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection awarded by REHIS, or equivalent; and Higher Certificate in Food Standards Inspection awarded by REHIS, or equivalent OR Higher Certificate in Food Practice
Full current UK driving licence
Trainee Authorised Officer -
HND in food technology and/or food science or BSc (Hons) in Food Science or equivalent
Full current UK driving licence
The postholder is able to demonstrate:

Writing reports and keeping accurate records.
Ability to work to deadlines.
Ability to plan and organise work effectively.
