Watford General Hospital is a tertiary Gynaecological Cancer Centre supported by three Gynaecological oncology consultants. Our workload is close to 400 new cancer cases a year treated in our centre. Within the department there is extensive experience in advanced ovarian cancer surgery. We are a multi-platform robotic centre with two Versius and one daVinci platforms.

The new appointee will have adequate surgical exposure to day surgery, complex oncology surgery, and minimal access surgery including robotics. There are at least thrice weekly gynaecology oncology theatres (8 hours per session). The fellow is expected to support the three gynaecology oncology consultants with daily ward rounds, oncology and rapid access clinics, research, clinical audits and MDT meetings. Depending on the workload of the consultants, the fellow might be expected to do extra gynae theatre lists.

Our Obstetrics and Gynaecology department consists of 24 Consultants and one visiting consultant, 16 middle grade doctors (including this post), 2 FY2 doctors and 9 ST1/2 doctors. The candidate will participate in an on-call rota of 1 in 8.

This is a fixed term, full-time post for a Trust registrar designed to give training and experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics. This post would suit a surgical trainee who may have successfully passed the MRCS examination and who is now looking for additional orthopaedic experience before applying for a Specialist Registrar post. You will become part of an experienced and supportive team of Specialty Doctors and Registrars working cross sites of St Albans City Hospital and Watford General Hospital.

The main responsibility of the role will be to provide a high-quality of specialist inpatient and outpatient care to patients with Trauma and Orthopaedic problems referred by General Practitioners and other hospital colleagues.

We will ensure excellent learning and training opportunities for you to specialise in either hip & knee replacements, knee arthroscopies, foot and ankle, hands, shoulder & elbow surgery.

Your primary responsibility will be for Trauma and Orthopaedics including experience in Elective Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery.

Your clinical duties on the Orthopaedic wards will include ward round, attending, and assisting in theatres and clinics. You will take part on the on-call rota where you will be provided with consultant supervision.

This is a fixed term, full-time post for a Trust registrar designed to give training and experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics. This post would suit a surgical trainee who may have successfully passed the MRCS examination and who is now looking for additional orthopaedic experience before applying for a Specialist Registrar post. This exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals to join, learn from, and support the Orthopaedic surgical team.

The successful applicants will join the Trauma and Orthopaedic department at a Registrar level. They will be expected to take part in the middle tier level as part of the site based on call rota with a junior doctor and an orthopaedic consultant based at WHHT that covers both sites. The post will also include weekend on calls within working time directive.

The post does not have formal training recognition, but the successful applicant will be expected to take a full part in the Directorates education and Clinical Governance programme.

Responsibilities

Supporting outpatient and inpatient care of patients with T&O problems referred by General Practitioners and hospital colleagues.

Supporting the consultant surgeon in providing, enhancing, and developing specialist care.

Management of emergency admissions when on-call supporting on call SHO and consulting with consultant on call as appropriate.

Supervising junior doctors and non-consultant medical staff.

Teaching junior doctors, medical students, and non-medical staff as appropriate and in line with the guidance by the Postgraduate Dean and Clinical Tutor and FY2 Foundation year programme Director.

Conducting patient management in line with the guidelines agreed by the T&O consultants and the Trust.

Undertaking audit of his/her work and contributing to appropriate national audits.

Participating in continuing professional development and in the Trusts appraisal and assessment processes, which include a formal annual appraisal.

Participating in the Trusts Clinical Governance activities.
