Carpentry
The incumbent uses skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Typical work assignments include constructing and repairing a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, computer consoles, and items requiring limited decorative trim and molding. The incumbent lays out and installs various modular furniture assemblies. The incumbent sets up and operates a wide variety of wood working machines and tools. The incumbent assembles items with a variety of joining techniques such as miters, rabbets, dados, biscuit, and mortise and tenon, and use glues and adhesives to secure wood pieces, veneers, and counter tops. The incumbent uses wood, metal, and various composite materials when installing or replacing interior partitions, flooring (to include carpet, laminates, VCT and other industry standard types), panels, suspended ceilings, counter tops, and moldings. The incumbent interprets drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently, and determines the layout and work sequences and types of lumber or special related materials. As an Aircraft Maintenance Manager (Title 32), GS-1601-12, you will perform the below duties:

1. Directs unit's overall efforts to ensure readiness of assigned aircraft, personnel, and equipment to meet wartime, day-to-day mission requirements, and any State Active Duty to support State Emergencies. Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the organization to direct flying operations. Establishes, reviews, and/or revises policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for the assigned staff, as necessary to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission accomplishment. Directs all functions to provide mission generation support by executing on-equipment activities to produce properly configured, mission ready weapon systems to meet contingency and training mission requirements for both operations and maintenance personnel. Ensures standardized procedures and organizations among Aircraft Maintenance Units (AMUs). Constantly exercises conflict-resolution skills to de-conflict flying schedule priorities supporting wing mission requirements, Operations and Maintenance Training requirements, and real-world Air Tasking Order (ATO) commitments. This also involves fluctuating deadlines, supporting multiple AMUs at dispersed locations, and work occurring on 2 or more shifts. Incumbent is also expected to make critical decisions involving fleet Urgent and Immediate action Time-Compliance Technical Order aircraft modifications as they affect the flying schedule. Provides critical input to Maintenance Standardization and Evaluation Program (MSEP) evaluation process to ensure quality of daily on-equipment maintenance activities.
2. Through subordinate functional supervisors, directs and supervises staff and production functions affecting very complex high performance aircraft with a wide variety of high cost, sophisticated systems, controlling approximately two thirds of base dollars. 1. Inspects a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment (i.e., combat, tactical, etc.) and automotive vehicles (i.e., attack tanks, large cranes, tank retrievers, fire trucks, bridge transporters, armored vehicle launched bridges, bulldozers, road graders, crawler tractors, power shovels, self propelled earth compacting equipment, self propelled artillery, etc.). Inspects and performs tests to braking, steering, and differential systems, which are mechanically integrated with the transmission; to large engines, which directly power multiple hydraulic and pneumatic systems; to intricate fuel injection systems; to turret stabilization systems; and to other systems combined in a single, complex mechanical assembly. Uses specially designed testing methods and test equipment such as computerized test sets, precision gauges, electronic sensors, injector test stands, engine scopes, etc., to assure that tolerance and safety factors have been met.

This position is located in one of two major divisions within the Logistics Directorate (Logistics Group) of an Air National Guard Flying Wing. Its purpose is to provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities within one of three major work functions (Aircraft Generation Division, and the Equipment Maintenance and the Component Repair Branches of the Aircraft Maintenance Division. All three work functions are organized with a number of subordinate supervisors due to the scope, volume, and complexity of operations. The work involves the total maintenance of complex, high performance military aircraft, ranging from multi-purpose heavy, multi engine transports to the most modern sophisticated fighters and bombers. All aircraft are fully integrated in and are part of the Total Force Mission of the United States Air Force. Occupations supervised are somewhat similar, in that they all involve maintenance of assigned aircraft to ensure combat readiness; they are dissimilar in their organizational location, as well as the functional areas, occupational series, and the diversity and complexity of systems for which each function is responsible. The occupation and nonsupervisory grade which best reflects the overall work operations supervised is Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10.

Description of Duties:

1.Planning: Plans the overall allocation of personnel, funding and equipment resources to the organizational segments supervised to accomplish work operations which, because of their scope, volume, complexity, operational tempo, and total force integration must be planned on a annual or longer basis. Because of the Total Force Mission integration with the USAF, keeps unit assigned Air National Guard mission aircraft in combat ready status and able to be fully integrated with USAF aircraft and missions upon activation and regular contingency operations, in addition to daily training and support missions.
