Role: Accountant (Service Charges)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £42,379 to £52,974 per annum (salary offered anywhere between this scale, dependent upon your experience)

You will be partnering with the Rents and Service Charge teams in interpreting and reporting financial information provided to internal and external customers.

You will be:
• A Business partner to the Rents and Service Charge teams. Providing support, reconciliation, and review.
• Co-ordinating the monthly reporting of rents and service charges at group, company and at scheme levels. This includes understanding the processes and needs of the teams and providing financial information in a format which aids business decisions.
• Providing analytical review of trends of income and expenditure. This will include a review of detailed calculations of estimates and year-ends and providing variance analysis to Service Charge Manager, business and senior management.
• Journalling the annual rent and service charge budgets into the Finance system.
• Carrying out budgeting and reforecasting of managing agents’ prepayments and accruals.
• Carrying out checks of Direct Debit amendment files for bulk changes for rent reviews and year-end service charge adjustments.
• Ensuring correct statements for My Choice HomeBuy and Exempt Housing Authority Loans in line with FCA requirements are sent.
• Ensuring that appropriate future repair funds are in place, liaising with other departments to ensure that funds are adequate to cover future works and are utilised as appropriate. Provide guidance on how to maximise the amounts recovered and what amendments may be required to Future Repair Fund contribution. This will include checking and identifying amounts to recover from customers for additional works.
• Reviewing and maintaining the Management Fee structure by identifying and updating changes to the pricing mechanism and review annually.
• Maintaining and updating control manuals, procedure documents and process maps and ensure compliance in practice.
We are on the lookout for someone who has:
• Full professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
• Proficient in numerical analysis and interpretation.
• Knowledge and understanding of the application of service charges in the social housing sector.
• Experience of management and financial accounting functions.
In addition, the following would be beneficial but aren’t essential:
• Knowledge of current financial reporting standards relevant to the sector (SORP, FRS).
• Thorough understanding of social housing service charge processes.
• Good understanding of business as well as financial issues.
