The Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool is one of the worldwide construction sites for the upgrade of the Inner Tracker (ITk) for the high-luminosity upgrade of the ATLAS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The ITk upgrade is a new detector for measuring the momentum and origin of charged particles emanating from the proton-proton collisions in the centre of the experiment.
The University of Liverpool will produce approximately 3000 strip hybrids, and approximately 580 strip and 500 pixel modules for the ITk. We are looking for two research technicians to take a crucial role in the production of these modules. These are highly skilled roles, crucial for the delivery of a world class detector for the LHC. The successful candidates will assemble high quality hybrids and modules, perform quality control, and record the related data to the database before preparing the items for shipping. They will work effectively as part of a team to ensure the project is delivered to schedule.
• Research technician for the construction and quality control of pixel and strip modules, during production for the ATLAS Upgrade project in the Department of Physics.
• The manufacture and assembly of high precision particle detector components.
• Occasional communication with staff and students on issues relating to the technical services, facilities, and equipment.
• A technical role supporting a large volume of varied activity in an academic department/school/institute or centralised teaching facility.
These posts coincides with the production phase of the ATLAS ITk upgrade. Subject to funding availability, there could be future possibilities of employment within the Department on other projects requiring similar skills and experience.
These roles requires the highest standard of cleanroom working disciplines to be applied. You will be required to work from formal engineering drawings and specifications. Good sensory and physical co-ordination is essential given the small scale and delicate nature of the detectors. Experience of working in a clean room environment and on wire-bonding are highly desirable.
You will have good communication skills and the ability to instruct others (e.g., students) in the production procedures. You will have a BTEC Higher (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or relevant professional experience.

An outline of your responsibility as a Quantity surveyor

Monthly CVR preparation
Prepare and monitor cash flow forecast for designated projects.
Ensure all invoices submitted accurately and for certified value to ensure payments are received on time.
Support your team to value and authorise payments to sub-contractors within the region
Liaise with Contract Managers to establish the project specification and requirements.
Attend and contribute to meetings with work colleagues and or Clients/Customers when necessary, building relationships and demonstrating excellent communication skills.
Assist in the preparation, processing and selection of estimates, bids, and tenders to demanding timescales.
Support the team with monitoring the contract progress, assess, and report any changes that may affect project costs and or time scale.
Assist in the control of contract budgets.

About You

You will have experience of working as a Quantity Surveyor ​within the Construction industry and refurbishments, it’s a distinct advantage if you have an understanding of the Social Housing planned works sector, which will give you the knowledge to hit the ground running and contribute effectively to the team. Applicants will ideally have a couple of years experience of managing their own workload/contracts, knowledge of the CVR process and schedules of rates. Applicants will also have strong commercial acumen, excellent attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills. You will be an expert with IT with proficient MS office skills. Key Responsibilities:

Deliver the building:

• Without time lost incidents
• Following U/L safety standards
• According to the schedule budget and scope agreed in FEED
• Following RIBA (Royal British Institute of British Architects) Stages 3 to 7 of the project
• Lead building handover (Permits, Trainings, Commissioning, Documentation, snag list)

• Inspect and verify all materials delivered to the construction site comply with contractual requirements.
• Monitor, inspect, and ensure workmanship and practices of contractors and/or crews engaged in construction and safety are in accordance with U/L Standards
• Follow-up the schedule assuring the on-time on the critical tasks (milestones)
• Lead on-going site inspections to ensure adherence to all building codes, plans and specifications.
• Witnesses testing and quality control activities to ensure compliance with contract requirements
• Monitor cleanliness and general orderliness of construction site. Assure housekeeping as per U/L Standards
• Assist the Project Manager in the review and evaluation of plans, specifications and designs submitted by contractors
• Follow up daily works according to the time schedule
• Lead the commissioning and update the punch/snag list in the approved format
• Monitor and ensure that site activities are in accordance with approved policies and procedures (work permit)
• Organize daily, fortnightly, and monthly catch-up meetings with constructors and stakeholders
• Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports.
• Coordinate the installation of the technology linked with the building construction
• Coordinate the training with the costumers.
• Sign permits of work related to the project outside the CDM area.
