The Centre for Human Genetics (CHG) houses approximately 400 researchers and staff conducting world-leading research in human genetics, genomics and bioinformatics. The Department of Computer Science is looking to employ a Postdoctoral Researcher to work within an interdisciplinary team on securing convergent ultra-large scale infrastructures (SCULI). The SCULI project is a research collaboration between University of Oxford, University of Bristol and the University of Lancaster that will be working closely with stakeholders and organisations from industry and the critical national infrastructure sectors.

The project is investigating how to secure emerging ultra-large scale digital infrastructures which are seeing convergence and connectivity at unprecedented scale. This is true for both current critical national infrastructures and emerging future systems, e.g., smart cities, intelligent transportation, high-value manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Cybersecurity of such ultra-large scale infrastructures faces unprecedented complexity. Diverse legacy and non-legacy software and hardware compose on-the-fly to deliver services to millions of users with varying requirements and unpredictable actions. This complexity is compounded by intricate supply-chains and the need to deliver resilient operations in the presence of untrusted, partially trusted or compromised elements.

The successful candidate will be required to work primarily under the direction of Professor Ivan Flechais, with guidance from other senior academics and will be based in the Oxford team focused on the following research objectives:

• Predictability at ultra-large scale: How to elicit, specify and validate security assurances for service composition in the presence of uncertainty, dynamism and human behaviour (including addressing direct and indirect dependencies and resulting systemic risks)?

We are seeking to appoint a Cloud Engineer to join the multidisciplinary Oxford-GSK Institute of Molecular & Computational Medicine, based within the Nuffield Department of Medicine.

In this role, you will develop a diagnostic platform applying the in-house developed technique SPARTA™ to the analysis of extracellular vesicles as potential disease biomarkers. The post will involve a range of nanobiomaterial characterisation techniques and the application of multivariate data analysis methods for sample classification.

Key responsibilities:
• Develop Single Particle Automated Raman Trapping Analysis (SPARTA™) as a non-invasive disease diagnostic technique based on EVs as biomarkers.
• Develop a deep understanding of EV biochemistry, Raman fingerprints and surface protein expression.
• Evaluate the performance of the technique with model systems and patient samples.
• Undertake the associated data analysis and interpretation, ensuring validity and reliability of data at all times, including either developing or liaising with others to use chemometrics, ML/AI algorithms and/or multivariate analysis.

The Henry Wellcome Buildings for Genomic Medicine and Molecular Physiology (HWB) comprise approximately 6,500 sqm of laboratory and office space for the delivery of world-leading research into the genetics and structural biology of human diseases. It houses over 600 building users, across three units: Centre for Human Genetics (CHG), CAMS-Oxford Institute (COI), and Division of Structural Biology.

The research units host a wide range of specialist equipment and research facilities including a suite for cryoElectron Microscopy, a high-performance computing facility, and a Functional Genetics Facility (FGF). The FGF and cryoEM facilities include biological containment laboratories (containment level 3).

As a member of the Facilities Team, you will contribute to providing a suitable environment to enable research to be carried out effectively in the HWB. You will assist the Stores & Goods-In Manager in providing a consistent and professional service. You will be responsible for assisting with accurately checking receipts against purchase orders and delivery notes and will assist with the receipting of all goods received using Oracle Financials. You will liaise with the NDM Accounts Team to ensure that orders, delivery notes, and invoices are all matched correctly. You will also be tasked with assisting with informing research groups – daily – of all goods that they have ordered that are awaiting collection, and assist with the effective distribution of goods to research groups. This will include perishable items which will require appropriate storage until collection to avoid damage to goods received.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Stevens Group. The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter with broad experience in microfluidic platforms for organ-on-a-chip models and have a solid background in bioengineering, molecular biology, or bioinformatics. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing cutting-edge imaging, spectroscopy, and omics tools to advance organ-on-a-chip monitoring, while collaborating with experts in tissue engineering, nanotechnology, optics, and machine learning. This post is available from January 2025 for an initial fixed-term of 18 months, with part-time appointments considered.

Key responsibilities:
• Develop high-throughput and targeted imaging workflows for omics and chemometric marker analysis.
• Implement advanced imaging, spectroscopy, and omics techniques in organoids and cell cultures.
• Collaborate closely with researchers in tissue engineering, nanotechnology, optics, and machine learning.
• Analyze and explore multi-dimensional datasets to understand correlations in organ-on-a-chip systems
• Manage independent research and administrative tasks related to the project.
• Contribute to a vibrant and multidisciplinary research environment, working with internationally recognized groups in biomaterials and nanomaterials.

Selection criteria:
• PhD (or nearing completion) in bioengineering, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a relevant discipline
• Proven experience with microfluidic platforms for organ-on-a-chip models.
• Knowledge of stem cell biology techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to manage independent research and administrative responsibilities.

Main Purpose

If you are joining us as a qualified Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS), this job description applies fully to you. However, if you are joining us as a veterinary surgeon who has not yet completed an RCVS approved NVS training course this job description will apply to you under the supervision of a NVS until you complete our 12 month NVS training programme and obtain NVS status.

As either a vet on our Named Veterinary Surgeon training programme, or as an experienced qualified NVS, our highly professional vets will provide expert advice to our technical teams who look after the animals and to the research community we support in carrying out their science.

The main purpose of these roles is to fulfil the role of a NVS employed in scientific procedure establishments and breeding and supplying establishments under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), as specified in section 24 of the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct and the Home Office Guidance on the Operation of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. In addition, our vets will provide advice on the care given to animals, and the way research is carried out, under ASPA.

In summary, the postholder will provide expert, veterinary advice to animal carers and users on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease in animals.

Main responsibilities

Advising on ASPA
• ASPA is at the heart of our work, and therefore the job holder will offer advice and support on how to work within its framework
• Provide advice on the most appropriate way to look after animals in those areas that require interpretation
• Provide expert advice on any Home Office audit recommendations and participate fully in the audit process as required
• Provide the technical teams you support with advice and instruction on the most appropriate practices related to the species in our care to ensure we continuously build on our culture of care as well as being compliant with ASPA. This will include visiting animal facilities regularly to ensure comprehensive veterinary care is applied as required to animals used for scientific research
• Provide the researchers – Principal Investigators and their groups – with advice and instruction on the research they are carrying out, or planning to carry out, within the Act.
• Working with the Named Animal Care & Welfare Officers (NACWOs) and the technical teams provide advice on the wellbeing and treatment of animals.

Procedural work
• Teach technicians and researchers how to undertake certain procedures as appropriate
• Carry out any regulated procedural work under ASPA or as required and/or appropriate
• Advise researchers on best practice with respect to methods of anaesthesia, aseptic technique etc., and on choice of appropriate animal models

Licence applications
• Participate in the animal welfare and ethical review body, which will include reviewing licence applications and advising applicants on best practice with respect to experimental techniques, animal welfare and application of the 3Rs (reduction, refinement and replacement)

Working out of hours
• You will be required to participate in an emergency out of hours rota

Working in a team
• Working as a collegiate team is critical in this job. This will include providing support to each other and ensuring that the vet team is an asset to BMS and the wider University. Our team ethos will be extended to all our stakeholders

Continued professional development
• CPD is important to BMS and therefore both parties will ensure that development opportunities are identified as necessary and undertaken.

We are seeking to appoint a highly qualified and dedicated Postdoctoral Research Associate in Translational Biology to join our research team at Oxford Translational Myeloma Centre which is based at Botnar Research Centre, Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), Oxford
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Translational Biology you will lead laboratory experiments and the computational analysis and interpretation of data with the goal of discovering biological pathways, patterns and genes that are responsible for the drivers of drug response or resistance in multiple myeloma. You will specifically interrogate multiple Myeloma cell lines and immune cells for studying the mechanism of action of epigenetic therapy in Multiple Myeloma. In partnership with industrial and academic collaborators you will analyse patient derived genomic, immune, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data to build hypothesis and test them in laboratory models. You will contribute ideas for new research projects, collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil (or near completion) in a biomedical discipline with direct relevance to molecular techniques and assays together with experience to undertake cell based analysis of drug activities. Ability to develop novel assays for testing compounds and their mechanisms based on genetics, OMICs and other assays is essential for success in this project. We are looking for a candidate who would be able to deliver high quality research outputs, as demonstrated by a strong publication record in high profile scientific journals. Familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field of Myeloma or cancer biology together with passion for problem-solving desirable but not essential. Experience in drug related research, strong publication track record and experience of presenting work at meetings and cross-disciplinary collaborative experience are desirable.

This is a full-time fixed-term initial appointment for 2 years.

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Scientist in Adenovirus Vectors who will join the Douglas group at the Jenner Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine. This post will offer considerable freedom to purse an agreed strategy within the broad field of improving adenoviral vectors for gene transfer, particularly, for vaccination.

You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities relating to adenovirus vector research. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will develop ideas for generating research income and contribute ideas for new research projects. You will assist in collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles, including taking leadership in more specialised publications on areas you lead, and present papers and posters at meetings and conferences. Additionally, you will represent the group through liaising with funders, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders including participation in external meetings.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD/DPhil (or be close to completion) in biology or medical science, together with experience of, and excellent molecular biology skills in, the engineering of viral genomes, particuarly those of a size comparable to adenoviruses. You will be able to independently plan and manage scientific projects and have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, prepare protocols, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.
