Intern - Public Art & Building History Researcher/Archivist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:

The Baltimore Convention Center wishes to research and then produce thorough documentation surrounding its public art collection. This will include reviewing archival documentation, researching artists and their works, interviewing pertinent stakeholders, and producing documents that will be used to create content for the organization’s website and self-guided tours.

Additionally, as the Convention Center will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2029, the Intern will start to identify historic photos and documents from within the city and agency archives and propose a list of assets that should be digitized in preparation for a retrospective.

Interns at the Baltimore Convention Center are hired with a specific set of tasks or project in mind.  The goal is to create meaningful job experiences for the student while providing the agency tangible outcomes that leave lasting impact.  The position will work closely with all departments, as well as relevant entities to further the assigned work such as the Baltimore City Archives and the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts

The Intern is a part-time hourly position that will report to leadership within the Sales, Services, and Marketing Department.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek averaging 20-30 hours a week. The work of this position takes place in a predominantly seated work location but will require occasional walking, bending, and lifting items no more than 50lbs. Occasional offsite visits to pertinent locations will be required, however a personal vehicle is not required.

Identify relevant photos and documents from within the city and agency archives to the creation and operation of the BCC since its opening in 1979.

Propose a list of archival items that should be digitized in preparation for a retrospective.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

An Investigative Specialist I is responsible for performing administrative professional work assisting in investigations conducted and managed by the Baltimore Police Department. Members in this classification assist in conducting and reviewing administrative investigations and/or a variety of criminal investigations and prosecution activities. Work includes conducting investigative research; documenting areas of violation, collecting and preserving case evidence; analysis of case documentation including but not limited to: audio-taped statements, photographs, payroll records, daily activity sheets, criminal databases, intelligence reports, and police incident reports; recommending appropriate investigative course of action; conducting preliminary case interviews; performing weekly statistical analysis of all; drafting of all case correspondences upon completion of investigation; and related duties as required.

The Baltimore Police Department is currently seeking Grant Services Specialist III - Victim Services Coordinators (VSC) who will be responsible for the provision of direct services to victims and secondary victims of crime. Under direction, the VSC will assist victims by providing a full range of services including assistance with compensation claims, crisis intervention, court support, case status updates, community referrals, and community awareness; and performs other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In addition to above referenced objectives as a Victim Services Coordinator, you will:

• Provide advocacy to victims and/or surviving family members to help address their emotional, physical and financial needs to reduce the impact of trauma.
• Connect crime victims and/or surviving family members to the detectives working on the case; provide information about crime victims’ compensation and other victims’ rights and explain what to expect during various stages of the criminal justice process.
• Respond to scenes and/or hospitals through an on-call assessment to provide crisis intervention.

• Conduct home visits to deliver food packages and assist detectives at initial family meetings.
• Accompany victims and/or surviving family members to court hearings and criminal proceedings to offer support.

• Maintain case files in the Victim Services Database
• Network and build rapport with community organizations.

• Supports to expand the current scope of BPD’s victim coordinators to also include a service response to other victimization types.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
An Investigative Specialist I is responsible for performing administrative professional work assisting in investigations conducted and managed by the Baltimore Police Department. Members in this classification assist in conducting and reviewing administrative investigations and/or a variety of criminal investigations and prosecution activities. Work includes conducting investigative research; documenting areas of violation, collecting and preserving case evidence; analysis of case documentation including but not limited to: audio-taped statements, photographs, payroll records, daily activity sheets, criminal databases, intelligence reports, and police incident reports; recommending appropriate investigative course of action; conducting preliminary case interviews; performing weekly statistical analysis of all; drafting of all case correspondences upon completion of investigation; and related duties as required.

Employees in this class work a conventional workweek that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. The employees work in an office and on site of incidents where such conditions as seasonal weather extremes, hazardous waste, and hostile confrontations may be encountered.

A Radio Dispatcher Supervisor plans and coordinates the work of radio dispatchers operating two-way base radio, telephone and related communications equipment and resolves public complaints and inquiries concerning City services. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class may be required to work a rotating shift to ensure coverage on a 24-hour, seven-day basis. A part-time Security Guard is primarily responsible for maintaining a post to greet and direct visitors and guest of the Baltimore Convention Center to events and area attractions while ensuring the facility is properly secured and that no unauthorized individuals are in restricted areas. This position assists Public Safety Officers with maintaining order, manning post, and enforcing Policies and Procedures, both inside and outside of the Convention Center Buildings and grounds.   

Incumbents receive moderate supervision and training from the Public Safety Supervisors to prepare them in becoming a full time Public Safety Officers. Part Time Security Guards work on an as needed basis; however, must be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays.  Work requires moderate exertion with prolonged periods of standing. Work is performed indoors and outdoors where there is exposure to inclement weather. The candidate must be able to work in all weather conditions. This position does not involve apprehending and/or arresting persons engaged in illegal activity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Greets and directs visitors and guests to events and area attractions.
