This is an exciting opportunity to gain wide-ranging experience of community services for people with learning disability. The Learning Disability Service strives to provide forward thinking high quality services, working in partnership with other agencies. In addition to working with people with learning disabilities and their families we have a strong commitment to health promotion through service development and training initiatives. We are committed to helping our staff develop and you will be part of an enthusiastic and experienced team.
We are looking for a registered nurse with an up to date knowledge of health policy for people with learning disabilities, to work across the Morecombe Bay footprint. Adaptability, good communication skills and self –motivation are essential. The successful applicant will be an experienced clinician with proven skills in working with people who have complex needs and challenging behaviour. You will also be able to demonstrate that your practice is evidence based and innovative.
A means of transport is essential and applicants must be willing to undergo an enhanced CRB check.
The post holder will work within current multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to core clinical functions within the team, as well as the provision of specialised nursing interventions. They will complement existing training provisions by the team, into the local communities, to support young people to stay in their usual place of residency/home and prevent escalating need and increased risk of admission.
The post holder will, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, work towards addressing the psychological, emotional and behavioural needs of children and young people with a learning disability. They will be responsible for their caseload and deliver a range of evidence based interventions.
The team provides a range of high quality assessment packages and interventions that are tailored for each individual and family. These include group based programmes for parents, wider family and individual work, behavioural interventions and sensory preferences and advice. The team have developed a number of pathways to provide support to the families and carers of children and young people who meet our eligibility criteria including behaviour, anxiety, toileting and sleep. Multi-agency working is a core part of the team’s remit and we have strong links with local mainstream and specialist education providers, social care and voluntary organisations.
Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.
The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.
