An exciting opportunity has risen to join our close, friendly, and supportive team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust (HHFT) as a Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist. This role will primarily be based at the Winchester site, however travel may be required to the Basingstoke site, assisting the service as required.
Winchester mortuary cares for approximately 1200 deceased patients annually, with around 620 post-mortem examinations performed on behalf of HM Coroner and Hampshire police services (Forensic). Basingstoke mortuary cares for approximately 1500 deceased patients annually, with around 750 post-mortem examinations.
HHFT also supports a 24/7 on call service to HM Coroner and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which is currently 1 in 3, of which the successful applicant will be required to participate in, following sufficient training and must have a full UK driving license with access to their own vehicle. Travel time of 1 hour (paid) is given for call outs.
This post is a permanent position at 37.5 hours per week + on call duties.
This advert is aimed at employing a Qualified Anatomical Pathology Technologist, however, individuals that are already in training and near completion of their Diploma level 3 will also be considered for the right candidate.

• Assist and support the Site Leads and other staff withallmortuary activities using local SOPs and trust policies.
• Understands and works to core mortuary duties detailed in the job description.
• To liaise with the bereavement officer(s), funeral directors and coroners’ officer in the documentation and release of deceased patients from the mortuary.
• To liaise with other partners and stakeholders both internal and external to the trust.
• Sympathetic engagement of persons viewing the deceased, to ensure relatives are supported and treated with courtesy, respect, and consideration always.
• Participate and work with colleagues to provide 24-hour service, working flexibly in accordance with needs of the department. The standard on-call for this post is 1 in 3 and may rarely require additional support to the service.
• Encouraged to seek further learning opportunities both internal and external to the trust.
• Must ensure mandatory training is completed in a timely manner.
• Actively participate in team meetings and continued development of the service.
• Ensure you can keep to and maintain deadlines.
• Undertake cross-site working at the direction of the mortuary operations manager, or via the site leads in the absence of to support the effective running of the service.
