As an Operation Research Analyst, the incumbent:

• Serves as a subject matter expert for cost estimating, life-cycle cost analysis, cost modeling and the development of cost databases, risk management, and operational research.
• Uses knowledge of applying appropriate cost estimating and statistics principles and methods, as well as risk management principles, to technically complex systems.
• Provides expert advice to program and project teams in cost estimating and analysis, including project baselining and support to the program decision processes.

• You will maintain programs for the Human Resources Office (HRO) in support of automated systems for the Laboratory and HRO.

Senior Laboratory Research Scientist

Short summary

Do you have a keen interest in biological mass spectrometry and applying state-of-the-art proteomic technologies?

We have an opportunity for a talented, experienced, and motivated Senior Laboratory Research Scientist in the Proteomics Scientific Technology Platform at the Francis Crick Institute. The post holder will help us provide a world class platform to contribute towards key research in collaboration with the wider Crick scientific community. This is a lab-based position, responsible for driving forward qualitative and quantitative proteomic and clinical proteomic projects, from experimental design through sample preparation to data analysis.

The Proteomics STP houses a broad range of mass spectrometers including a Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Eclipse Tribrid with FAIMS and ETD, Exploris 480, Q Exactive UHMR, Bruker timsTOF Ultra and Pro2, Waters Select Cyclic and SYNAPT G2Si HDMS. The role will involve setting up new experiments as collaborative projects arise using the available mass spectrometry technologies to both qualitatively and quantitatively measure proteins.

Key Responsibilities
These include but are not limited to:

• Planning of experiments, decision making about which pipeline to take, and independently executing experiments for projects.
• Performing both standard and bespoke proteomics experiments starting with sample preparation from a variety of biological sources using common biochemical methodologies for cell lysis, SDS-PAGE, in-gel, in-solution, TCA and acetone precipitation digest protocols, TMT labelling, high pH chromatographic fractionation and label free quantification.
• LC-MS/MS nanoUHPLC data acquisition, evaluation, and processing of raw data.
• Communication of results in collaboration.

Other typical activities may include:

• Collaborating with other lab members on/Assisting other lab members with/ research projects.
• Providing experimental or technical support to other lab members.

The successful applicant will be working with international neuromuscular expert physiotherapists and physicians within the Clinical Neuromuscular Physiotherapy Team at GOSH to ensure best clinical care and research practice and will furthermore collaborate closely with the ICH Neuromuscular Research Team and the Clinical Research Facility Team. The post holder will have the opportunity to explore their own project/case-load and to provide cross-cover or support to fellow research physiotherapists. The post holder will be an active participant in the Physiotherapy Service at GOSH and will collaborate with the clinical Neuromuscular Physiotherapy Team. We have an active and growing paediatric research unit based within a new, dedicated and purpose-built Children’s Clinical Research Facility (CCRF), which opened in 2018. We employ over 18 research nurses and clinical research practitioners with a portfolio of over 20 research studies currently in the delivery stage. Over recent years, the department has seen a significant expansion of clinical research.

We currently have an opportunity to provide maternity leave cover for one of our existing research nurses. The post will suit an enthusiastic, organised and motivated individual to join us as a Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse, on the CCRF at St Mary’s Hospital. Hours will be full time (37.3hrs) and the post will be funded for 12 months in the first instance. The successful applicant will join a first class team delivering ongoing, ground-breaking paediatric research studies, particularly in the field of children's allergy.

This role involves working closely with medical and nursing staff along with research participants and their families. Central to the role is the recruitment, education and monitoring of patients participating in our allergy clinical research studies. The post holder will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards the well-being of the patients, and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research.

This position provides the post-holder with the opportunity to work with a very supportive and welcoming team and to further develop your existing knowledge and skills. Prior experience of working in allergy is essential for this role and experience of research within an NHS setting is highly desirable.
