We are looking for an experienced Team Leader to join our Post Award section within Research and Innovation Services (RIS). The Research Operations Post Award section is responsible for providing overarching support and quality assurance for research, knowledge exchange and expert services Post-Award finance-related activity, including financial management for live grants; provision of live grant information to grant holders and senior management; financial reporting to funders and other external bodies; and support in the management of studentships and grant administration.

You will have the following key responsibilities;

• Line manage a team of 5 Post Award Finance and Project Officers providing advice and guidance on University procedures and pastoral care.


• Provide training to new and existing staff members as appropriate and mentor team members to ensure a thorough understanding of university financial regulations, research related policies and external funders.


• Monitor and coordinate the performance and workload for the Post Award team, planning cover to ensure smooth service provision through peaks and troughs.


• Provide advice, and lead on, complex or high-risk awards.


• Provide a senior check, where appropriate, of the team's work to ensure accurate calculations and reporting. procedures and pastoral care.


• Develop and deliver training sessions to relevant university staff on Post-Award procedures.


• Contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of new policies and quality standards, procedures and systems for the post award management of Durham's externally funded research activities to ensure effective working and continuous improvement.


• Actively participate in regional and national networks and working groups to represent Durham and share best practice across the sector in research project management, ensuring that Durham is actively engaged in relevant consultations and well positioned to understand and, where appropriate, influence funder policy.

The University is currently offering hybrid working, which means you will have flexibility around working arrangements. Currently you would need to come into the office a minimum of twice a week. You can work in the office on additional days of the week if you choose.

Fixed term for 36 months

Wrexham University is looking to appoint Research Fellow in Composite Materials Engineering. Initially this role will be located in the Advanced Composites Training and Development Centre, a joint activity with Airbus at the site in Hawarden where there is a state of the art composites facility. The university has secured funding through the North Wales Growth Deal for a new facility, the Enterprise Engineering and Optics Centre on the Plas Coch main site in Wrexham and the building programme is well advanced. The role will transfer to a purpose built facility within this building when it is completed.

The fellow will perform and lead high quality collaborative research, working both independently and as part of the research team and wider academic community to achieve the project goals. They will act as a research leader at the University, develop research objectives, projects and proposals. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable.

The facilities at present include an extensive array of thermal characterisation, SEM and FTIR microscopy as well as impact and mechanical testing. There is an array of microwave and radio frequency equipment reflecting the specialism of microwave curing for low carbon, fast cycle time processing of composites.

We are seeking to appoint a Grade 6 Research Assistant for an externally-funded project examining the use of baby carriers and slings in the UK. The role will involve designing and conducting a systematic review of research evidence, designing and conducting online surveys with families and practitioners, critically evaluating existing guidance and making recommendations. The Durham Infancy & Sleep Centre (DISC) is a research centre of the Department of Anthropology & Faculty of Social Sciences. It is the home for a group of researchers examining various aspects of infant and child sleep and parenting behaviour. Our work over the last 30 years has substantially increased parents' understanding of babies' sleep, how best to care for babies during the night, and how best to keep them safe when asleep. DISC houses the Baby Sleep Information Source (Basis) which provides research-based information for parents and practitioners.

This is a 1-year researcher role on a project funded by the National Institute of Health Research's School for Public Health Research. We are seeking either a Grade 7 PhD holder,or Grade 6 graduate to fill this role. The project, COAST (Evaluating COastal rural communities' Active and Sustainable Travel), uses an ethnographic approach to explore responses to active and sustainable travel interventions in rural and coastal County Durham and Cornwall. Methods used are likely to include geonarratives, go-along interviews and photo-elicitation interviews. The postholder will be based at Durham and will conduct intensive fieldwork in the east of County Durham, working closely with a researcher at the University of Exeter who will conduct fieldwork in Cornwall. Senior Research Technician

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced technician to cover a period of maternity leave for 12 months, predominantly to support our Palaeoclimate, Image and Geochemistry research laboratories.

You will be responsible for:
the operational management of these research lab areas- carrying out lab inductions, training staff and students in technical and clean lab procedures, maintaining stock levels, servicing, and operating analytical equipment; overseeing lab safety, assessing risk, and encouraging sustainable lab practices.
carrying out analytical work to support academic researchers, e.g. conducting palaeoclimate multi-proxy analysis using light microscopy (preparing ocean sediment samples for stable isotope and trace metal analysis), Coulter Counter (for grain size analysis) and maintaining data and archive records.
Experience in working in a research laboratory is essential.

The successful candidate will also work as part of a friendly and supportive team of technicians, supporting the wider Schools Research Facilities, carrying out PAT testing, Legionella control and safety inspections. We will provide any relevant training and support that you may require.

Within the new NHS Wales Executive (the Executive), newly configured National Strategic Clinical Networks are a key component of the National Clinical Framework (NCF) model.
