Duties include but may not be limited to:

• Processes samples of blood, tissue, organ, or other body fluids or substances according to standard operating procedures.
• Ensures samples are processed according to the correct on-going study protocols to ensure the quality of the specimen.
• Maintains responsibility for the accuracy of the results and for the adequacy of the results in furthering the professional clinical or research objectives.
• Performs data analysis including arithmetic calculations, algebra, graphing of data using interactive computer programs.
• Prepares reports, presentations, figures etc. associated with the studies.
• Programs equipment used for blood processing, DNA extraction and DNA normalization.
• Maintains and controls laboratory records.
• Develops and maintains detailed records of all experimental or other protocols, and ensures results are neatly kept and catalogued in appropriate format.
• Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies used, proper records of research data, and assists the supervisor in performing data analysis.
• Calibrates and maintains laboratory instrumentations at timely intervals so as to minimize breakdown and delay of procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

DUTIES:

• Serves as Veterinary Medical Unit (VMU) Supervisor, overseeing the operations of all Veterans Affairs (VA) Boston animal facilities (Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury).
• Completely responsible for the management of the Veterinary Medical Unit (VMU), reporting to the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff (D-ACOS).
• There are approximately fifty (50) active protocols, and thirty (30) Principal Investigators utilize the Veterinary Medical Unit, using different species of animals for biomedical research studies in many scientific fields.
• Controls the animal population level by setting limitations, approving new animal purchases, and working with investigators to ensure population levels are consistent with the facility's ability to provide proper care.
• Ensures the proper transfer and transport of animals per regulations and guidelines.
• Maintains the barriers necessary for the prevention of cross contamination and the restrictions, separations, and precautions necessary to maintain a virus antibody-free facility.
• May order disposal, quarantine, or other measures as necessary, and may restrict the purchase of animals from sources found to be unreliable regarding the condition of animals.
• Performs other duties assigned.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick.

You will provide technical support for the Superconductivity and Magnetism group, helping to maintain and repair apparatus in the sample preparation and characterisation laboratories of the group. The apparatus includes a range of electrical and mechanical devices including furnaces, pumps, and low-temperature (cryogenic) measurement systems.

You will be responsible for the general support of the research group’s activities, carrying out routine maintenance of equipment and housekeeping in the group’s laboratories.

You will also assist in operating and maintaining the Departmental helium recovery plant.

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on an industrially funded project supporting the testing and optimisation of electrochemical technology for the destruction of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from drinking water. PFAS have been linked to several human health conditions and are present in almost all water sources. However, there are currently no scalable technologies capable of destroying these compounds, due to the strength of the C-F bond. A scaled up (pilot plant) electrochemical system is being trialled for PFAS destruction in conjunction with a collaborating national water company.

The technology will utilise boron doped diamond (BDD) electrodes to destroy PFAS compounds by electrochemical advanced oxidation. Research at Warwick will involve work on a lab-scale electrochemical reactor capable of investigating different experimental conditions, solution matrices etc to run alongside the pilot plant and provide formative feedback. Quantification of PFAS removal from the water systems will be made using in-house analytical equipment at the University of Warwick. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a new collaborative venture tackling destruction of persistent and potentially toxic pollutants from drinking water both in the laboratory and in a water treatment facility.

The Warwick Electrochemistry and Interfaces Group (WEIG) is an internationally recognised electrochemistry research group based at the University of Warwick. WEIG is comprised of 30+ members from around the world. The Macpherson group, within WEIG, focuses on electroanalysis and sensing, electrochemical synthesis and treatment, is world-leading for research based around BDD and has close links to industry. Alongside the core research the successful candidate would also work collaboratively with other members of the research group working in similar areas. They will be provided with the space and resources to develop their own personal and career development. The contract is for a fixed term of 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to further funding being secured.
