The Department of STEM & Construction wish to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Fabrication & Welding Technician to work with lecturing staff to support learners across SCQF levels 5 to 8. You will work across all areas of the Fabrication & Welding delivery in the Fabrication workshop.

The Role

Key duties in this post include:

- Working safely and adhering to Health and Safety protocols
- Preparing materials and solutions and setting up equipment or use in practical classes
- Setting up and carrying out demonstrations in the workshop to students
- Retrieving and clearing away equipment and materials
- Monitoring and restocking consumables in the workshop
- Stocktaking in particular with the annual stocktake
- Ensuring all equipment is working correctly
- Supporting the teaching staff and other technicians in the department

Person

You will ideally be educated to a minimum of HNC level in a related subject, although applicants with relevant industrial laboratory experience and relevant NC or SVQ will be considered. You will be an adaptable and innovative individual with a passion for. Ideally you will have experience working in a similar role.

Travel between campuses will be required as part of this role and therefore a driving license is essential.

We are seeking to recruit a permanent term-time member of staff to work as a School Technician (CDT). You should have appropriate qualifications and experience in joinery and be good at all-round DIY. Experience with Audio Visual and Information Technology would also be beneficial.

With direct responsibility for the day to day line management of a small team of Technicians in the school, you will coordinate the activities a busy support team across all Sciences, Craft, Design & Technical and AV/ ICT.

It is essential that you have recent experience in a Technician role in Science, ICT or Craft, Design & Technical. You will be required to demonstrate that you have supervisory management abilities and a high level of organisational and communication skills.

ICT is used extensively throughout the school and it is essential that applicants have developed good keyboard skills and, as a minimum requirement, a basic working knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Additional knowledge of ICT problem solving will be an advantage.

You must be able to work and plan under pressure, prioritise workloads to ensure effective service delivery, be self motivated and use your own initiative. Health & Safety will be a key aspect in managing the Department. You will also have responsibility for staff training and development.

Training will be given to successful applicants, as appropriate to the needs of the individual.

The working hours will be discussed at interview and negotiated prior to starting but it is a 37 hour week term time (plus 2 additional weeks worked during school holidays).

The salary shown is for a full time post 52 weeks, for term time employees on a 41 week contract you will be paid between 47.2 weeks (0 years service) and 48.7 weeks (10 years service) depending on your continuous service date and the number of paid holidays to which you are entitled.
