As a Release Train Engineer, you will deliver and take ownership of a specialist service and combine key knowledge whilst acting responsibly communicating early. You will promote a positive safety culture through visible proactive, consistent and influential behaviours and use your expertise to help direct strategy based on detailed strategy.
What you'll get to work on
- Problem Solving: Identify and address potential roadblocks, risks, and dependencies across teams. Work proactively to resolve conflicts and facilitate timely decision-making to keep the release train on track.
- Stakeholder Communication: Working closely with Product Management, provide regular updates on the release train's status, risks, and achievements. Foster strong relationships and effective communication channels with business leaders, development teams, and other relevant parties.
- Alignment with Company Strategy: Ensure that the development efforts within the release train align with the broader organizational goals and strategic initiatives.
- Agile Leadership: Provide servant leadership to Agile teams within the release train, guiding them in adopting and implementing Agile principles, values, and practices effectively.
Release Planning and Execution: Lead the release planning process by collaborating with Product Owners, Product Managers, and other stakeholders to establish release goals, scope, and schedules. Coordinate and manage the execution of the release plan, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Facilitation: Organize and facilitate key Agile ceremonies, including Program Increment (PI) Planning, Scrum of Scrums, Inspect and Adapt workshops, and more. Foster collaboration, communication, and transparency among cross-functional teams.
- Optimising the Flow of Value: within your ART.
- Metrics and Reporting: Collect, analyse, and report key metrics related to the release train's progress, velocity, and performance. Use data-driven insights to continuously improve the Agile processes and outcomes.
- Finances: supporting the financial monetary budgets by tracking and flagging any derailment to committed deliverables within your ART.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive the adoption of Agile best practices and continuous improvement principles. Collaborate with teams to refine processes, optimize workflows, and enhance overall efficiency.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Coach and mentor Agile teams, Scrum Masters, and Product Owners on Agile principles and practices. Foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Who we are looking for
- Degree qualifications or the equivalent demonstrable experience in similar or related disciplines
- Proven experience as a Release Train Engineer or in a similar Agile leadership role, preferably within a software development environment.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, particularly SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework).
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Proficiency in Agile tools and software development lifecycle management platforms.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to navigate complex challenges.
- Certifications such as SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), or similar Agile certifications are desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Cyber security (IT/OT/Physical) experience, qualifications and awareness of security frameworks and regulations desirable.
- Experience of large solution/scale delivery would be advantageous.
