In this role, you will be a strategic HR advisor who builds strong partnerships with the senior leaders and the NTU HR community to develop and execute the People Strategies and solutions for the College/Schools. Our HR Business Partnering team is structured to offer our stakeholders close support in three clusters – namely the Colleges & Schools, Administrative and Research clusters.

You will play the role of a Cluster Lead to a team of HR Business Partners and HR Generalists and is expected to lead and coach the team in the delivery of HR services and initiatives. The role has a primary reporting line into the Office of Human Resources and matrix reporting line into one of the Colleges.

 Responsibilities:

• Engage and strengthen the capability and effectiveness of the team comprising HR Business Partners and HR Generalists.
• Build relationship as a trusted HR advisor with senior stakeholders and managers in the assigned Colleges/Schools/Centres, including display of strong professional credibility;
• Develop intimate knowledge of business needs of the assigned Colleges/Schools/Centres, translate business agenda into a HR agenda and ensure HR programmes are fit for purpose;
• Collaborate with the Dean, School Chairs, Centre Directors, HR Business Partners at College/Schools level, HR Centre of Excellence and NTU Shared Services – HR (NSS-HR) to develop and deliver HR solutions to address business needs;
• Provide professional advice on the interpretation of HR policies and procedures, employment legislation, performance management, recruitment and rewards strategies;
• Educate the People Managers and employees on policy/ system changes and implications, as well as understand and gather their feedback and inputs;
• Lead the team in the planning and implementation of HR programmes and continuous improvement projects for three job family groups – Faculty, Researchers and Administration staff of the assigned Colleges/Schools/Centres;
• Lead the launch and management of the Annual Performance Management cycle and oversee the facilitation of the University’s central performance review meetings for the Leadership Team and stakeholders of the Colleges/ Schools/ Centres;
• Provide expert advice and support employee relations matters, conflict, disciplinary matters, unsatisfactory performance; and
• Lead and manage projects and programmes assigned.

Requirements:

• At least 12 years of relevant HR experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory/leadership position;

Summary

The Senior Human Resources Partner, Student Employment serves as an HR generalist and performs a variety of duties in support of the human resources function including but not limited to recruitment, placement, training, and employee relations. The Senior HR Partner will lead and support the student employment job placement process and respond to all policy and procedure inquiries. Additionally, the Senior HR Partner will collaborate with the office of financial aid to validate student aid awards prior to job placement as well as track and communicate federal work-study hours to both supervisors and students. The Senior HR Partner will also be responsible for providing information and assistance to faculty, and staff related to job postings, hiring, onboarding, and separation of employment. Additional duties will include projects related to the Federal Work-Study program and student employment such as recognition awards, benchmarking analysis, student retention metrics, and conducting training for both supervisors and students. Additionally, the Senior HR Partner will serve as the primary backup to the Talent Acquisition Manager and will be the first point of contact for Talent Acquisition needs in the absence of the Talent Acquisition Manager.

This is a hybrid position however in-office presence will be required for the first three months, and at the beginning of the academic year along with the flexibility to attend specific evening and weekend open house sessions.  

Essential Functions

Serves as the Senior Human Resources Partner by completing various functions to include:

• Providing guidance to all hiring managers throughout the recruitment and onboarding process.

• Posting all vacant student, faculty, and staff positions utilizing Workday HR Recruiting applicant tracking system. Ensuring job titles and postings are consistent university’s practices.

• Screening applications and resumes and providing hiring managers with qualified candidates via Workday HR Recruiting.

• Coordinating and conducting applicant interviews when applicable. 

• Conducting background reference checks for all employees as required. Ensures students hired in a leadership role are cleared with the Office of Student Conduct (i.e., Housing and Residence Life, CCSI positions).

• Verifying Federal Work-Study student award eligibility of students with financial aid before job placement and throughout the recruitment process.

• Assist new hires with the onboarding process in Workday.

• Facilitating the completion of Form I-9 Employment Verification requirements for all new employees utilizing E-Verify. 

Performs various functions in the HRIS system to include:

• Initiating functions in Workday HCM/Recruiting such as creating job requisitions, referring applicants, or inviting candidates to apply for vacant positions. Approves/reviews various business processes in Workday to include hiring, placement, assign organization, and processing job changes such as transfers and terminations. Accurately enters the information in the HRIS database.

• Ensuring position titles are displayed in Workday in a consistent manner and follow best practices according to established protocols.

• Reviewing TeamDynamix ticketing system and responding to all open ticket inquiries within 72 hours.

• Reviewing and responding to emails received in the student employment mailbox.

• Testing new Workday Releases for functionality and potential implementation.

Coordinates and develops Work-Study and Student Employment programming:

• Collaborating with the Organizational Development team to create support programming for students to develop workplace competencies as well as process and best practice training for supervisors. 

• Partnering with divisional to develop and create student recognition programs.

• Attending new student orientations to promote the student employment program.

Develops Student Employment Hiring Policies and Procedures in accordance with best practices:

• Developing Work-Study/Student Employment guidelines for hiring managers and students.  

• Ensuring the Student Employment Handbook is current and up to date.

• Conducting benchmarking analysis on Student Employment policies, procedures, and programming as required.

• Maintaining membership with the National Student Employment Association.   

• Ensuring websites display accurate and the most up-to-date information on FWS/Student Employment hiring procedures.

Conducts audits and communicates the status of FWS hours:

• Monitoring the Federal Work-Study student total award amount on a bi-weekly basis to ensure student payments do not exceed allocated funds. Responsible for communicating FWS's remaining hours to both supervisors and students at least three times during a semester (during the beginning, mid-point, and towards the end, 2 to 3 weeks before graduation).

• Ensuring proper reconciliation to the general ledger for Work-Study Cost

• Ensuring Work-Study students are ended in Workday at the end of each academic year including graduating students.  

• Providing analytics and input into the review of student positions to ensure FWS funding is utilized to the maximum.

• Entering total award amounts for each FWS student in Workday. Collaborates with Financial Aid to modify award amounts as required.

• Enter one-time payments when applicable.Centers/Function/Fund.

Provides leadership, guidance, and support to direct reports by:

• Collaborating with the Manager of Talent Acquisition to provide ongoing feedback and coaching to ensure direct reports meet/exceed expectations related to service standards.

• Mentoring the Human Resources Partner by providing coaching, feedback, and training recommendations.   

• Providing mentorship, orientation, and training to internal Human Resources Student employees.

• Scheduling and assigning tasks to internal Human Resources Student employees.

Qualifications/Requirements

• A Bachelor's in any discipline is required and 3 years of relevant experience.

• 3-5 years of experience in Administration, Financial Aid, or Human Resources may substitute the bachelor's degree requirement.

A Day in the Life…

Reporting to the Manager, National Recruitment, the Recruitment Officer is responsible for supporting Brock University's Strategic Enrolment Management as it relates to undergraduate student recruitment. The Recruitment Officer will serve as the public face of Brock to Canadian secondary school students and encourage them to choose Brock for their undergraduate studies. This is done by initiating and maintaining strong relationships with secondary school contacts (Guidance Counsellors and teachers), parents, and students across the country. The objective is to increase the size of our overall applicant pool, ensure we are providing equitable and accessible service to all constituencies, and to increase the academic caliber of our applicants. Plans for both in-person and virtual school visits are being explored, as well as teams of recruiters dedicated to each of those delivery methods.

As the Officer, Recruitment, you will:

• Learn and retain relevant details of all academic programs and services related to the Brock student experience;
• Develop the skills necessary to effectively conduct Brock presentations at secondary schools across the country;
• Participate in an annual professional development workshop offered for all Ontario University recruitment officers;
• Conduct Brock informational presentations at secondary schools across Canada;
• Participate in large-scale events for prospective students and applicants (i.e. Ontario Universities’’ Fair, Postsecondary Information Events, etc.);
• Respond to ongoing inquiries from students, counsellors and parents;
• participate in large-scale on-campus events for prospective students and applicants, such as Fall Preview Day and
• Participate in other recruitment and public speaking engagements as opportunities arise.

What you need to Succeed…

• Undergraduate degree (with high academic standing from any discipline) with preference given to graduates of Brock University;
• Valid G class driver’s license with an acceptable drivers’ abstract;
• At least six months of experience making presentations and successfully promoting products and services;
• Extensive knowledge base of the Brock undergraduate experience;
• Ability to master a significant volume of detailed information related to all aspects of the Brock undergraduate student experience;
• Polished presentation and communication skills and strong technical/multimedia skills;
• Evident love of Brock and a positive high-energy spirit;
• Ability to keep abreast of changes and current trends in and around the University;
• Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy;
• Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences (secondary school students, teachers, guidance counsellors, families and support networks, transfer students, etc.)
• Strong organizational ability and proven administrative skills;
• Sound judgement, resourceful, and ability to address inquiries with confidence and accuracy;

• This position serves to identify, define, analyze, validate and report on Human Factors Engineering and Usability considerations to ensure they are incorporated in the design process related to Alcon products.

• The position also involves advocacy for end users through the conduct of interviews or surveys of users or customers to collect information on topics such as use-related requirements, use risks, needs, user profiles, task analysis and user interfaces.

• Additionally, the position involves needs assessment of the user-interface elements and usability characteristics of both current and future Alcon products, with special emphasis on aspects related to use safety.

• This position is accountable for ensuring user needs and requirements are translated into design concepts in collaboration with the product design teams.

• Accountable to delivering on traditional HFE activities and deliverables such as HFE Plans, development of Task Analysis to support Risk management activities, planning and conducting usability evaluations, cognitive walk-throughs, data analysis to identify opportunities and control risks, effectively report on formative and summative evaluation results, and proactively present recommendations to product teams.

• Author human factors artifacts required for regulatory compliance.

• Maintain awareness of the state of the art methods as applied to life-sciences / medical device industry.

• Maintain awareness of the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape and regional market expectations and requirements to ensure global market access for the Alcon portfolio.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Incoming Material Inspection (IMI) Technician, you’ll have the chance to perform quality inspections and testing of raw materials and commodities to ensure compliance with all applicable standards before utilized in the production process.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

• Responsible for sampling and testing ingredients and packaging materials, as to comply with quality procedures and assuring specifications and quality guidelines are met
• Implementing the effectiveness of the quality system including maintaining commodity lot trace file labels for and Kosher schedule A updates, and new ingredients for Kosher schedule B compliance
• Properly sampling ingredients and packaging materials, including certified supplier quarterly and annual monitoring as applicable
• Analysis of the ingredients and physical evaluation of the packaging materials as defined by testing procedures
• Monitoring the schedule and releasing ingredients and packaging materials 
• Minor troubleshooting of lab equipment with some assistance 
• Recognize and report method procedure problems out of specification conditions, or other anomalies to be brought to the attention of supervision
• Input of quality data into quality/inventory computer systems including MITS, AMAPS, and LIMS
• Placing commodities on hold where called, maintaining a hold list and pursuing final disposition of commodities on hold through destruction or release based on justification and approval
• Submitting Supplier Event Notifications to Supplier QA, and to appropriate Plant personnel
• Routine interactions with inventory planning,  materials management receiving areas, and plant Quality Engineers, to assure ingredients and packaging materials are evaluated, released to meet the production schedule, and to report defects
• Updating plant procedures to meet new policies and accurately reflect practices

PAY AND SHIFT

The Incoming Material Inspection (IMI) Technician position starts at $23.00 per hour + a 5% shift differential with a $3,000 sign-on bonus. The hours for this position are 4:30 pm to 3:00 am, Wednesday through Saturday.

Note: Training will be completed on 1st shift.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma (or equivalent) required
• 1 year of college science (e.g. chemistry) with appropriate labs and 1 year of college math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus) or B.S. or B.A. Degree in a science or technical  discipline 
• Ability to complete sensory testing which includes taste testing products to evaluate flavor, texture, aroma, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Math, or closely related technical field
• Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements and nutritionals
