An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a part of the Leicester Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team (SHT), developing the Sickle Cell and Thalassemia service at UHL across the whole patient pathway from pre conception to adulthood.

The SHT team includes Nurse Specialists across the region at Northampton and Kettering. The Leicester SHT is part of the East Midlands HCC Network linking with colleagues at Nottingham, Derby and Burton.

You may not have had experience working with Haemoglobinopathy patients, but should be able to demonstrate an interest in the specialty. We will provide support and training to meet the demands of this interesting and varied role.

• Act as a clinical expert and professional resource to the patients, carers and multi-professional team, within the sickle cell & thalassemia service.
• To be responsible for the day-to-day management of sickle cell and thalassemia patient caseload, ensuring the nursing care delivered is of a high standard.
• To work with the Specialist Treatment Centre team in Leicester and the network, to assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines and to effectively deliver an expert nursing service within the specialist area.
• To link with healthcare teams in order to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of this group of patients in the community or in the acute Trust.
• To facilitate transition of patients from Paediatric to adult care.

Permanent: Fulltime 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday Location: Covering across residential homes in Northampton, Leicestershire and Nottingham. The post will require someone with previous experience of working in CAMHS settings, specifically within Looked After Childrens services. Job Role You will be providing a therapeutic service to young people placed within community residential setting by assessing and identifying their needs and meeting them through consultation and training to Residential and Care staff, direct therapeutic work, care planning and management in conjunction with the Multi-disciplinary team. Dependant on your experience you may be required to supervise other Mental Health Practitioners. The core of your role you will be providing consultation, specialist assessments of children and young people within the residential setting. So, subsequently, you will formulate and implement plans of therapeutic intervention/management of children and young peoples presentation based on psychological understanding the difficulties within the current evidence-based practice.
