About the College/Department

The School of Psychology was established in 2020 and is situated within the College of Health, Psychology and Social Care. The School is home to our two Discipline areas of Psychological and Behavioural Sciences (PBS) and Professional Psychological Practice (PPP). About the role

As Lecturer in Psychology you will contribute to the delivery of a range of modules across our undergraduate and postgraduate provision, with a particular focus on core areas recognised by the British Psychological Society. The role will include supporting our marketing events (e.g., open days) and outreach (e.g., school visits) which occasionally take place into evenings and at weekends.

The School of Psychology has an active research agenda, and you will have the opportunity to engage with and support financially sustainable research and/or other appropriate academic activity, contributing to the research profile of the School of Psychology. Whilst we are back to full campus delivery and activity, there will be opportunity for working from home as agreed with the Head of Discipline. We do support hybrid working as business needs permit. This is a full-time position but we will consider part-time work, if desired.

About You

You will have some experience of teaching a range of modules in psychology and you will be actively pursuing your own research. We are particularly seeking candidates with knowledge of biopsychology and/or cognitive psychology, but will also consider other areas of expertise. Experience of curriculum design would be beneficial but is not essential. You might hold FHEA or have other teaching experience, but should be familiar with the HE context and its requirements. Excellence in communication, team and collaborative working are essential, both internally and externally.

The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced aviation engineer to join a vibrant team providing an outstanding learning experience, through the delivery of engaging teaching, learning and assessment, which prepares our apprentices for the next stage in their career. The team you’ll be joining is energetic and diverse, with colleagues ranging from recent graduates to those with over 35 years’ experience within the Engineering industry to those who have been teaching with us for less than a year.
You’ll be working with Rolls Royce apprentices ranging from 16 to 18 years old and adult apprentices on a variety of courses including the Aerospace Engineering and Machining apprenticeship standard. You will be predominantly working in a classroom environment supporting apprentices with their knowledge, skills and behaviours, and completion of their portfolio of evidence.
Through the delivery of engaging teaching, learning and assessment, you will ensure they gain an in depth understanding of subjects such as;
• AMEDK3-005: Mechanical Principles of Engineering Systems
• AME3/012: Advanced Manufacturing Techniques
• AME3/017: Mechanical Engineering Principles
• BTEC Unit 7: Engineering Principles
You’ll have industry experience within the Engineering sector and a degree or HNC/D in the subject. We are looking for someone with great interpersonal skills, and a desire to share their knowledge and experience with the next generation of aviation engineers.
If you are not a qualified teacher, no problem! If you have industry knowledge, we will help you achieve Qualified Teacher Status.
