JOB SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Director of IRSC Online, oversee comprehensive student support services, tackling technology-related concerns, and supervise staff across multiple campuses. Troubleshoot and resolve diverse student issues by collaborating with various college departments and utilize problem-solving skills. Foster skill development among end-users while organizing and facilitating technology training sessions for both students and faculty. integral to our Quality Enhancement Plan.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

• Oversee the helpdesk staff and work study students across all college campuses to maintain a high level of student and faculty support. (20%)
• Identify common technical knowledge gaps and create workflows for employees to create training for students and work collaboratively with college stakeholders to develop and deliver training for students and faculty in technology and other student success tasks. (30%)
• Serve as the College’s point person for technology checkout initiatives. (20%)
• Stay abreast of multiple sources of detailed information at the College that include currently available software, and schedules of activities including tours, workshops, classes and orientation sessions.  (10%)
• Support students with resolving issues related to course success through planning and executing events in high volume areas, including but not limited to the College libraries, student success centers, and other ad hoc areas (10%).  
• Assist students with orienting to college technology resources and tools, including but not limited to MyPioneerPortal, learning management systems, Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, that are necessary for course success. (5%)
• Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
 

• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum two (2) years of direct customer service experience working in a fast-paced, public service environment; 
• Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of academic technologies, which include learning management systems (LMS), web-conferencing systems, Apple hardware and software, Microsoft hardware and software, mobile computing, online proctoring services, and Web 2.0 applications; 
• Demonstrated supervisory and coaching skills;  
• Self-starter, motivated, and ability to take initiative; 
• Ability to travel between campuses for meetings or position responsibilities; 
• Ability to be sensitive to student privacy, copyright law, and intellectual freedom issues.
• Ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
• Spanish language experience preferred.
• This position includes some night and weekend shifts, as scheduled.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. This position supports core lab functions at our main hospital campus in La Crosse, WI. Seeking Phlebotomists, C.N.A, PCT, CMA, or other individuals that have an interest in working in a laboratory setting. No prior experience is needed, we will train on the job!

What You'll Do:

The Laboratory Support Technician is a leader in facilitating the flow of specimens into the lab by using current specimen collection techniques, preparing specimens for testing, and sharing of reports out of the lab. This includes specimens from regional clinics and regional outreach clients. The Laboratory Support Technician responds to emergency events in the hospital and clinic settings. The Laboratory Support Technicians are skilled at collecting specimens, including blood, from all patient types including Trauma and Emergency Center admits, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Urgent Care, Pediatrics, Pediatric ICU, and Neonatal ICU. • 40 hours biweekly (0.5 FTE)

• Variable day shifts (5:15a or 5:45a start time) with every other weekend

Job Description:

The Laboratory Support Technicians are skilled at collecting specimens from all patient types including Trauma and Emergency Center admits, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Urgent Care, Pediatrics, Pediatric ICU, and Neonatal ICU. Major Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the collection of blood specimens from all patient types including Trauma and Emergency Center admits, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Urgent Care, Pediatrics, Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU. Responsible for swab collections in various locations. Follows established procedures to accurately identify and label all specimens.
2. Responsible for responding to Medical Response Team (MRT) emergencies in the hospital and clinic setting, and may be asked to respond to Code Blue alerts.
3. Responsible for all aspects of specimen processing which includes use of the centrifuge, separating blood components as required for testing, etc.
4. Responsible for set-up of microbiology samples in preparation for testing.
5. Competent in referral lab which requires a high knowledge of testing, specimen packaging, outside laboratories, and insurance.
6. Competent in Point of Care testing including Accucheck, Istats, and urine dips.
7. Competent in setting up and reporting of EKG's.
8. Responsible for assisting in the training program, which may include preparation of training materials, facilitating bookwork, teaching proper venipuncture techniques, specimen processing, and mentoring.
9. Works with PBS, LIS and ordering providers to accurately order and bill for laboratory tests, utilizing the laboratory information system and billing systems. Understands government billing.
10. Utilizes analytical reasoning to research and evaluate complicated processing issues.
11. Works with specimens collected by lab and non-lab staff, properly processing, storing, handling and distributing laboratory samples to the correct testing locations, and may transport specimens between testing labs and collection sites.
12. Develops laboratory competencies and ensures completion of competencies by all SSTs within the required timeframes.
13. Assists in system maintenance and scanning of Future and done orders.
14. Works with patients, families and Gundersen Health System staff to ensure patient comfort and confidentiality in all aspects of the job, and provides excellent customer service.
15. Works with Gundersen Health System staff by answering phone calls about specimen collection requirements and other lab related questions to provide accurate information to facilitate quick access to lab information as needed.
16. Works with other health care professionals and patients to perform all SST functions to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients.
17. Other duties as assigned by laboratory supervisor or manager.

Position Summary: 

The Surgical Technologist Certified functions in the role of scrub person. Works under the supervision of the surgeon and the R.N. to ensure that the O.R. environment is safe, equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
