We are looking for a Support Worker to join our team in Complex Needs, which is a Supported Housing service operating across Truro and Falmouth, to provide housing with support, to people who have experienced complex and chaotic lives, including homelessness, historic substance misuse, mental health issues, offending behaviours and other challenges.

We will be working closely with other specialist providers to deliver pro-active, holistic support to our customers, preventing homelessness and helping them to identify their goals and aspirations, build confidence, self-esteem and pride, and move forward to further independence, meaningful activity and stability.

We are looking for people to work with us who are motivated to make a positive contribution to the lives of the people we support and have a “can do” approach to their work. You will need to take a creative approach to support, adapting your style of communication. Our complex needs services provide opportunities for colleagues and customers to discuss and address difficult and challenging situations, but our primary objective is focusing on the person not the problem.

You will provide support and advice around managing a tenancy, working with benefits (housing benefits, universal credits, PIP and other), bills, exploring options around education, training and employment, budgeting, linking with and signposting to agencies and activities in the community and other appropriate services, running individual and group activities, supporting people with physical and mental health needs, addiction, and engaging with other professionals.

You will also need to liaise and develop strong links, with referral partners including external agencies. You will need to have a good understanding of Safeguarding, assess needs and risks appropriately to ensure the service is suitable for the prospective customers. You will help to keep the caseload management systems up to date and will complete Risk and Needs Assessments and Support Plans and assist in the preparation of reports, outcomes and case studies.

Experience in a similar role or lived experience would be desirable, however what is most important is having a passion for helping people in the local community.

This role will be challenging at times as you will be working with and supporting people across a range of difficult and challenging issues/behaviours; great team working skills as well as the ability to lone work, enthusiasm to work alongside partner agencies, resilience, an attention to detail, using your initiative and problem solving will be key.

This role is being offered on a full time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week on a rolling rota, to include weekend working. Bandwidth hours will be 8am to 9pm.

Timely production of papers and other documents for internal and external meetings, of which some will also relate to cross system-wide meetings including the drafting of high quality documents (emails, letters, presentations), with varying degree of instruction or support. Leading on the preparation of learning environments including layout, setting up equipment and learning aids. Coaching of new staff on all systems in preparation of training delivery. Designing of training databases to reflect live environments conducive to training. Develop training courses to accommodate differing skill levels and learning styles. Set up/upgrade of user accounts after training delivery, conforming to correct levels of role based access. Undergo annual appraisal and be responsible for evaluating the currency and sufficiency of own knowledge and practice against KSF outlines. Agree and develop personal development plans and maintain a PDP to provide evidence of development and performance against KSF outlines. Be responsible for own personal educational and experiential learning, keeping up to date with changes in local and national trends and policies, undertaking training as required for the development of the post. Participate in the induction/training of new Junior Doctors as part of the induction process. Share information relating to own are of work within the team, actively promote and support the sharing of knowledge and skills and the professional development of those engaged in administrating educational delivery.
