Glasgow School of Art (GSA) are seeking to appoint an Assistant Residential Accommodation Manager to join GSA Halls of Residence Accommodation Team. This is a new post which will play a key role on building our halls offering to accommodate new GSA students. This includes developing a variety of housing and supporting our residents within our communities.

The post holder will be expected to participate with the provision and running of the halls including: providing professional reception and administrative support, day to day running of sites within the halls portfolio with a view to maintaining good HMO standards, keeping the halls fresh and developing with our customer in mind. Working with the submarine electricity cables team, you will be responsible for managing the engineering and technical elements of design and installation of our submarine cable projects. Our projects vary from the inspection, repair and maintenance of existing submarine cables, to the survey, design and installation of replacement and new submarine cables.

Reporting to the Lead Submarine Cable Design Engineer and relevant Project Managers, you will support the delivery of engineering elements of the projects from the preliminary route identification through to the development of the detailed design and cable installation and commissioning.

With a priority on safety and the environment, you will have technical and design responsibilities within:

- Submarine Cable procurement.

- Submarine Cable route design, including desktop feasibility study, cable burial risk assessment, on bottom stability analysis and UXO risk assessment.

- Preparing pre-construction information and scopes for all aspects of the works in line with SSENs specification and industry best standard.

- Managing technical aspects of Contractors, from delivering survey data, to report generation, through to cable installation.

- Technical support to the wider subsea team, procurement and commercial, environmental and consents.

- Internal design governance processes, including design management and design risk.

You will be responsible for consideration of stakeholder views within the design phase of the projects and during construction, and will be responsible for communicating with and developing internal and external relationships.

What do I need?

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have the following essential experience to join us;

- Experience of submarine power cable landfall assessments, route engineering, design analysis and specifying methods of cable installation, burial and protection, based on marine survey data. Experience of route engineering design with GIS and drawing packages.

- Knowledge of submarine power cable installation, both in deep and shallow waters, and aspects that may affect the cable integrity during installation and operation.  

- Experience of preparing and managing tender packages for submarine power cable works, including installation and marine surveys.

- Experience in considering stakeholder views within the design development.

- Applicable Engineering Degree qualified or equivalent experience.

The following experience is also desirable but not essential for the role;

- Knowledge of the operation of the electrical distribution network.

- Experience of onshore cable route assessment for subsequent connection of the submarine cable to the distribution network.

- Knowledge and application of the Construction, Design and Management Regulations 2015.

- Experience of preparing pre-construction information, carrying out design risk assessments and design reviews.

For this role you must have a full, current driving licence.
