The opportunity
We are looking for a seasoned leader and Personal Lender to play a key role providing leadership, direction, and coaching to the team of CWB Specialists, Personal Lending, who provide credit structuring, credit underwriting, and Banking Centre support for Personal borrowing clients.
The Personal Lending team provides support to CWB Banking Centers nationwide through receipt, underwriting and recommendation of complex Personal Lending applications, including guidance on project viability and loan structure.
This player-coach role will actively support structuring, alignment, and recommendation of Personal borrowing solutions to the CWB Private Banking team and their clients. This includes extensive knowledge of Personal lending policies, and the ability to analyze, challenge and recommend structuring CWB’s policies within our competitive market position while adhering to Regulator’s risk appetite and guidance.

Provide sales coaching to team members to help uncover client needs and recommend tailored lending solutions
Lending Advisement
Build strong relationships with with all business leaders (Market leads and Personal Banking leaders) and their respective team members to ensure individual and Banking Centre objectives are met with timely and client-focused Personal Lending solutions.
Actively engage and respond to Private Banking partners to help drive success through effective and timely credit underwriting for highly complex new borrowing opportunities, with the view to be every client’s primary financial partner
Assist the team in optimizing overall profitability of relationships with new and existing clients based on return guidelines, customer risk profile, total banking relationship, and competitive environment.
Management of intake process, workflow queue, and workflow distribution for new Personal lending requests
Risk Management
Responsible to provide guidance to business leaders (Market Leads /Personal Banking Leaders) and other Banking Centre members on the identification and management of risk, provide guidance on early direction / action to proactively find credit solutions.
Completes necessary due diligence while working with Personal Lending Specialists and partners to establish terms of credit, and produce prudent credit facilities that reflect strong knowledge of CWB policies and procedures
Actively engage, challenge and respond to Credit Risk Management partners for structuring, alignment, and recommendation of highly complex Personal borrowing solutions while balancing risk and reward in line with CWB’s risk appetite.
Ensure awareness of changes within the Canadian banking landscape specific to Personal Lending as outlined in the Residential Mortgage Underwriting Policy (RMUP)
Identify potential risk that can lead to difficulty in repayment or potential default on the loan
Proper AML/KYC practices and loan portfolio management with focus on loan quality, exposure limits and security requirements.
Core know-how & experience requirements
Professional Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline
Working knowledge of OSFI’s Residential Mortgage Underwriting Policy (RMUP)
Working understanding of mortgage insurance requirements (CMHC, Genworth)
Expert knowledge of collateral security and personal lending documentation requirements, including credit policies and knowledge of other FI’s policies, products and processes would be beneficial.
Professional Experience
10 plus years experience in Personal credit analysis and presentation, supported by well-developed skills in business financial statement analysis and knowledge of effective risk mitigation strategies for Personal credit underwriting
5 plus years leadership experience, including direct experience leading high performing sales roles and managing remote teams
Proven analysis skills in both Business/Commercial and Personal lending across industries through the application of financial statement knowledge & understanding to support Personal credit recommendations.
Experience with banking and loan origination systems.
