The SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute (“SDGHI”) is a platform for global health activities across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (“AMC”). The Institute aims to address current and emerging health challenges across Asia. The Global Health Systems Research Unit is a new and dynamic unit focused on elucidating health system challenges and developing solutions. Key Responsibilities

Job Description

The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor John S. Ascher on environmental modeling of mosquito vectors and stinging wasps and bees and other insects of importance for public and environmental health under the CNRS@CREATE, SPACE project.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

Working with the appointment PI to validate as fit for use an existing specimen and community science dataset of insects of importance for public and environmental health, especially mosquitoes and stinging wasps. The appointee will then conduct species distribution modeling based on an existing pipeline already established for bee research and documented in a publication. The candidate will start with highest priority mosquito species such as Aedes albopictus and other well known species of public health importance will move on to other species as time allows.

Research Fellow in Carbon-Negative Synthetic Biology and Engineering of Cyanobacterial Cell Factories

We are seeking one or more highly motivated and creative postdoctoral researchers to join our dynamic team at the Synthetic Biology for Clinical and Technological Innovation (SynCTI), Synthetic Biology Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) and the National Centre for Engineering Biology (NCEB).

The selected candidate(s) will be part of an interdisciplinary collaboration across various research groups. Appointments will be initially made on a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension. We welcome applications from PhD holders, including those without prior experience.

Chronic unresolved inflammation is a key pathogenic feature of prevalent inflammatory disorders and related syndromes that together are predicted to affect close to 60 million people with an annual cost of $90B. As such, the global anti-inflammatory therapeutic market is in urgent need for new targets for therapeutic intervention.

The Ho lab at Duke-NUS is building a platform to mine the human genome for novel determinants of the inflammatory response. We are seeking an experienced researcher who will participate and drive the execution of this platform in collaboration with other senior members of the team. The selected candidate will be expected to work at the bench as well as manage some aspects of the project such as administration of documentation required for smooth operations. Successful completion of the project will lead to opportunities for transition to industry roles. As a Research General Engineer in the Technical Division at the Coast Guard R&D Center, you will join a fast-paced, diverse, and collaborative group of scientists, engineers, computer scientists, and analysts to contribute to research in focus areas. This position will focus on contributing to and/or leading Defense and Safety Systems (DSS) applied research projects. The DSS Research Program aims to ensure the safety of Coast Guard members, the Maritime Transportation System (MTS), and the public now and into the future. Examples of defensive systems that will protect our assets from evolving threats include non-lethal vessel stopping technologies, counter uncrewed systems (C-UxS), directed energy systems, and cybersecurity systems in Operational Technology (OT). Safety systems efforts focus on improvements to mariner safety and increasing the probability of successful search and rescue, as well as assessing modern vessel construction techniques and materials that will ensure that the service knows how to regulate, respond to emergencies, and utilize advancements in ship design.

• Designing or directing the development of unique or leading-edge technology, equipment, or systems to meet specific mission requirements.
• Conducting systematic research in problem areas that are highly complex, answering important questions in the scientific field that lead to innovation.
• Serving as a senior engineer coordinating and integrating the planning, programming, development, oversight, scheduling, and overall management of resources for multi-phase projects.
• Guiding and evaluating contractor efforts by reviewing plans and cost estimates, reporting problems and/or progress, directing necessary changes and resolving controversial problems, and ensuring contractor efforts are in line with research program objectives.
• Utilizing correspondence with field experts and literature published with the agency, outside agencies, private industry, and research institutions to maintain knowledge of current technology and regulatory developments in the scientific field.
• Conducting analysis and applying findings of technical reviews to recommend changes to existing directives
