We are currently seeking an interim Research Immunologist to work with our global FMCG client, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple, to become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.

The position is based at Kings College, London. This is a full-time temporary role for 12 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation for this role is competitive, paying up to £56,000 per annum, pro rata, depending upon experience.

The role currently offers a mix of remote and onsite working, subject to adjustment based on business requirements.

BACKGROUND

The Science and Technology (S&T) pillar is charged with the delivery of breakthrough technologies and differentiated innovations to meet the needs of our consumers around the world, developing new functional ingredients for our leading brands. Human Biology (HB) is a Science and Technology Platform investigating the biological mechanisms that underpin key consumer phenotypes leading to the generation of new technologies for the next generation of personal care products and providing novel insights to support superior claims in the marketplace.

A UL Bioscience Hub has been established at Kings College London, with UL scientists based at Guys Campus. The main purpose of this Hub is to enable UL scientists to work alongside globally recognised experts in the Bioscience field, allowing access to world leading scientific expertise and technical capability.

An opportunity has arisen in the S&T Human Biology team for a PhD-qualified scientist to join our team at Kings College London, reporting to the Bioscience Hub leader & senior scientist for a 12-month maternity cover contract. The role is ideally suited to a self-motivated, resourceful research scientist with ability to work on their own initiative and with strong people and communication skills. A background in immunology is essential with a knowledge of skin biology highly desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Programme support: As part of the HB S&T programme, provide immunology expertise to support all project workstreams. Undertake lab-based research to identify new insights, targets & technology for relevant categories.
• External networks and resources: Leverage the best of both academia and industry, including assessing and working with independent service providers, to support the development of new technologies. Contribute to building the new KCL Hub and establishing an effective scouting network within the University.
• Science capability build: Support internal efforts to build knowledge and expertise in the area of skin immunology. Actively evaluate new science capabilities, establish relevant capabilities into practice and assist in alignment with relevant UL programmes.
• Business relationships: Build and maintain effective working relationships with project teams in Human Biology, Human Microbiome and business category stakeholders in UL.
• People/Skills Development: Be proactive, self-motivated, with ability to work on their own initiative and with strong communication skills, for delivering the immunology focussed Human Biology agenda and exploiting the opportunities of the KCL hub.

ALL ABOUT YOU

• A degree in a biological based subject is essential. A PhD, or equivalent experience, with a strong emphasis in human immunology is preferred. Experience of skin biology/immunology would be ideal, or other host-microbial interface such as hair and oral mucosa.
• Proven ability to handle primary cells, particularly immune cells, is preferred. Experience of co-culture systems, 3D models, histological analysis of immune biomarkers, and experience of managing tissue in accordance with the UK Human Tissue Act would be an added advantage.
• Omic measurements (e.g. RNAseq, proteomics etc) of cells and/or tissues and bioinformatic analyses thereof using R and/or other software platforms is desirable. Knowledge of single cell and/or spatial transcriptomic techniques is an added advantage.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external partners for new technology development, as well as initiating new partnerships
• Ability to effectively balance multiple concurrent activities and deliver to established deadlines.
• A strong interest in translational research and industrial R&D; the direct experience of delivering a research agenda in an industrial setting would be an added advantage.
• Fluent spoken and written English.

The post holder will work closely with the principal investigator, clinical and research teams to co-ordinate and deliver research within the Paediatric Clinical Trials unit, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital. The post holder will deliver a high standard of clinical care and be able to work as an independent autonomous practitioner. Research specific duties, include: To be responsible for co-ordinating and delivering research trial within the Paediatric Clinical Trials unit, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. Undertake the screening, identification and recruitment of eligible participants to relevant trials according to trial protocol and organisation SOPs. Provide relevant information to prospective participants and taking of informed consent (and assent where appropriate). Deliver a high standard of clinical care, while adhering to research protocol, for all patients eligible for and recruited to clinical trials. Adhere to the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP). Manage the clinical trial documentation including maintenance of site file(s). Provide orthoptic support, where necessary, to clinical trials within Moorfields Clinical Research Facility. Act as research contact regarding paediatric clinical trials for both patients and the wider clinical team. Maintain good and open communication with the clinical team to facilitate the identification and recruitment of potentially eligible participants. Maintain accurate and detailed record keeping in format adhering to trial protocol and local SOPs. Present research findings at relevant scientific meetings. Provide orthoptic input to the development of protocols and grant applications. Network with other researchers and build collaboration. Facilitate effective communication or research study information with all relevant research team. Have a high level of computer literacy and basic programming. Support orthoptists and other members of the clinical team in their roles in clinical research studies. Support and encouraging engagement with clinical research. The Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Computer Science Teacher to join our outstanding teaching team. You are likely to teach students from year 7 to 13. You would not be expected to teach every course we offer, allowing you to focus on specific courses and become a specialist in the areas which interest you. We have a comprehensive set of schemes of work, but with the flexibility to adapt to develop further. We are looking for a team player who will help us to develop and shape the next phase of our journey to excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver high-quality Computing lessons to students in Years 7-13, adhering to the national curriculum and exam specifications.
• Inspire students to problem solve and create creative solutions to complex problems.
• Assess and monitor students’ progress, providing feedback to help them achieve their personal and academic goals.
• Foster a classroom environment based on mutual respect, inclusivity, and a love of learning.
• Participate in departmental and whole-school initiatives.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school community through extracurricular activities or pastoral support.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

• Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Strong subject knowledge of Computer Science, with the ability to teach up to GCSE level. The ability to teach at A Level would also be beneficial.
• A passion for teaching and learning, with a commitment to student progress and achievement.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• An understanding and appreciation of the school’s Christian ethos and values.

Operating within the Computing & Business Faculty this job offers a unique opportunity to teach some of a wide range of subjects, including KS3 Computing, GCSE Computer Science, BTEC DIT, Cambridge National iMedia, and A Level Computing Science. The department is housed in a dedicated suite of classrooms, each with an interactive screen, 30 desktop computers, plus each student has their own iPad. About you

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

• Hold the relevant Computing/ICT qualification (PGCE, B. Ed or BA Hons) with UK Qualified Teaching Status (QTS/QTLS).
• Be a confident communicator, alongside excellent behaviour management, and can build good rapport with students and fellow staff.
• Deliver exciting and engaging Computing/ICT lessons using your own initiative and have a good knowledge of the national curriculum.
• To monitor and evaluate the progress of pupils’ learning in the subject
• To follow school departmental policies for the assessing, recording and reporting of pupil achievement using these to set achievable targets for further improvement in the subject across the range of abilities
• To create and maintain a stimulating learning environment for the learning of Computer Science and to have a significant input into the development of Computer Science teaching in the school.
