We are looking for a recent school, FE college or university leaver to provide scientific technical support for the Roslin Institute’s award-winning Public Engagement with Research (PER) programme. The role is based in the Roslin Institute Public Engagement team at the University of Edinburgh’s Easter Bush Campus, and most of the PER programme is delivered on campus at the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre (EBSOC), a laboratory space purpose-built for public engagement.


The Opportunity:

This role is a unique opportunity to support the Roslin Institute’s award-winning PER programme, which aligns with and is supported by strategic research funding from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. This funding supports research into genes and traits for healthy animals, and prevention and control of infectious diseases, allowing Roslin’s experts to develop the Institute’s overall research themes of sustainable agriculture, controlling diseases and enhancing health.

The PER programme includes in-person and online activities for primary, secondary and international schools, FE colleges, adult learners and teachers; as well as events for community groups and the wider public.

The job will involve supporting the delivery of up to three activities per week, most of which are based on campus at the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre (www.ebsoc.ed.ac.uk), a purpose-built engagement laboratory where we deliver a variety of hands-on science workshops to school pupils and the wider public.

The job will initially focus on technical and administrative tasks in the Easter Bush Outreach Centre; as you develop in the role you will also be supported to get involved in the delivery of our PER programme.

You will need to be interested in science, and enthusiastic about hands-on learning and science engagement. Successful candidates will have basic laboratory skills in biology and/or chemistry and a strong interest in developing these skills further, as well as good all-round communication skills.

The Opportunity:

The School of Physics and Astronomy is seeking to appoint a strong candidate to a full-time, fixed-term research position within the Edinburgh Nuclear Physics Group.

The appointed PDRA will work in the group of Prof. Marialuisa Aliotta (PI) to conduct research in experimental nuclear astrophysics for the UKRI-funded ERC Advanced Grant “NUCLEAR: NUclear Clustering Effects in Astrophysical Reactions”. The appointed PDRA will support and develop the experimental programme of nuclear reaction studies at surface- and underground facilities. Jointly with the PI, you will supervise PhD students and support the execution of all experimental activities and related data analysis and interpretation. You will also conduct and support R-matrix global fits of experimental data and contribute to the evaluation of astrophysical reaction rates.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nuclear astrophysics as well as a good academic track record and leadership potential in the field. In addition, s/he will be expected to co-supervise research students and to contribute to some teaching. The successful candidate is expected to engage in frequent field trips to overseas laboratories, present their work at collaboration meetings as required, and maintain a good collaborative attitude.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate the mucosal immune and inflammatory response during murine infection with the parasite Schistosoma mansoni, focusing on refined cellular immunology readouts.

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week).

The specific aim of this position will be to reveal core immune and inflammatory features of the mucosal response to S. mansoni, with a focus on defining the role of macrophages, dendritic cells and CD4+ T cells in induction vs regulation of intestinal and/or pulmonary tissue damage and repair during murine infection with this parasite. Part of this will involve linking immune readouts with sequencing, microbiota and metabolic data sets to identify key mechanisms that promote or regulate mucosal inflammation against S. mansoni.

We are looking for a statistical geneticist with experience in large scale analyses of genomic data to work on a post funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) that aims are harness the use, integration and interpretation of large or high dimensional genetic and genomic datasets to investigate multi-morbidity. The Opportunity:

This position is affiliated with the UKRI APRIL AI Hub that aspires to develop AI tools to accelerate innovation across semiconductor technologies, novel microchip designs and system architectures – leading to faster, cheaper, greener and overall, more power-efficient electronics. As one of nine UKRI funded AI Hubs, this is a highly visible programme both nationally and internationally.



The post-holder will work closely with a team of talented researchers and the APRIL operations team to support the development of novel AI capabilities, tools and methodologies that can enhance the productivity of engineers in designing, developing and testing advanced electronic devices and systems. More specifically, the post-holder will be able to develop and introduce AI tools into commercially available circuit design tools that can autonomously synthetise circuits and systems architectures. The aim is to drastically reduce the design time and optimise the transfer of known topologies into new CMOS technologies.

We are looking for an inventive and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to work on a Wellcome Trust Funded Grant studying the molecular controllers of the immune response to inflammation, cancer, and tissue damage using Drosophila as a model system with the ultimate aim of identifying novel therapeutic strategies for inflammatory disease.

The Opportunity:

This is a 3 year, full-time postdoctoral position to work within the lab of Professor Will Wood at the University of Edinburgh. This represents a unique opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team undertaking cross-species research in inflammation and innate immunity, utilising a powerful live imaging approach to understanding how efferocytosis regulates the fate and function of macrophages during health, injury and infection.
