Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Managing Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team, specializing in Equipment and MEH (Mechanical, Electrical, and HVAC). This is a key strategic role responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance to support the successful delivery of the Sizewell C project.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Legal Advisory: Provide high-quality legal counsel on all matters related to equipment procurement, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC contracts within the Sizewell C project.
Contract Negotiation & Drafting: Lead negotiations and draft complex commercial contracts, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and legal requirements.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks, working closely with project teams, procurement, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal teams, external advisors, and suppliers, fostering strong relationships and providing strategic legal advice on MEH-related issues.
Compliance Oversight: Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and safety requirements, including environmental and nuclear-specific regulations.
Dispute Resolution: Manage and resolve any disputes arising from MEH contracts, minimizing project delays and financial exposure.
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of legal professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
You will be required to be admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction.
Knowledge & Experience
You will have excellent working knowledge and experience in the following areas:
Relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor or barrister admitted in England and Wales, or equivalent qualification.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction supply chain contracts (including NEC and FIDIC) required.
Experience of line management required.
In-house experience desirable.
Delivering a pro-active, business-focused service that anticipates risks and prevents problems.
Well-rounded legal knowledge and experience preferably (though not necessarily) in the projects sector and commercial acumen. Experience of delivering infrastructure projects, operating in a nuclear environment and a broad understanding of corporate risk areas would be beneficial.
