Job Summary
The Haematological Malignancy Genomics Laboratory, led by Professor Chng Wee Joo, focuses on using advanced genomics and proteomics methods to study the clinical and biological complexities of haematological malignancies such as multiple myeloma (MM), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and NK/T-cell lymphoma (NKTL). This translational research program aims to discover diagnostic markers, identify novel therapeutic targets, and uncover molecular mechanisms of disease, advancing our understanding of cancer pathogenesis and potential treatments.
We are seeking a Research Assistant to support ongoing research in murine models. This role involves assisting in studies on mouse models to validate discoveries in haematological malignancies, with a focus on preclinical validation of novel therapeutic targets, therapeutic resistance mechanisms, and biomarker identification. This is a hands-on laboratory position requiring proficiency in animal handling, genotyping, and familiarity with experimental protocols involving mouse models.
Job Description
- Animal Model Handling:
Conduct routine handling and care of laboratory mice, ensuring adherence to ethical and welfare standards.
Support experimental setups in mouse models to study disease pathogenesis, progression, and therapeutic responses in haematologic malignancies.
Perform injections, tissue sampling, and necropsies as required for experiments.
- Data Collection and Analysis:
Assist in collecting and processing biological samples (e.g., blood, tissue) from mouse models for downstream molecular analyses.
Maintain accurate records of experiments, data collection, and sample inventory in a clinical database for integrated bioinformatics analysis.
- Genomic and Proteomic Support:
Assist in sample preparation for genomics and proteomics studies, including DNA/RNA extraction and preparation for sequencing and protein assays.
Support preclinical validation of molecular markers and therapeutic targets identified from genomic studies.
- Laboratory Support and Maintenance:
Ensure lab equipment related to mouse work is well-maintained and calibrated.
Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Assist in the maintenance of a comprehensive tissue bank, ensuring high-quality source material is available for research.
- Collaboration and Reporting:
Collaborate closely with senior researchers, assisting in the analysis of data from mouse models.
Report findings and observations to the research team and contribute to discussions on the impact of preclinical findings on clinical applications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Prior experience in laboratory animal handling, preferably with mouse models.
- Experience in haematological research or genomics/proteomics is an advantage.
- Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures for working with mouse models.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate data records.
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and Western blotting.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a research team.
