Airspace use is increasing and changing rapidly, from commercial and military flights to the growing use of drones and the threat of ballistic missiles. Ensuring territorial integrity and the safety of the population calls for systems that are more efficient and more closely integrated than ever before. In this context, we enable States to detect, identify, analyse and neutralise any threat from the air with the help of our integrated airspace and protection systems.
Integrated Airspace-protection Systems (IAS) business line starts its development in Thales Romania by extending the operations of Land and Air Systems (LAS) department with activities around Air Mission Control for Command and Control Systems.

A typical work day:
- Scrum ceremonies
- Solving any pending or blocking issues
- Develop new features and solve bugs
- Collaborate with other teams (e.g. Integration, Validation, System etc.)
- Technical design sessions
About the Role We Are Looking For
We are looking for a Product Owner passionate about computer science and aeronautics that has a strong will to take up the challenge of airspace protection. The experience in a previous role of Product Owner in Agile Process is required for this role.
The Product Owner will join an agile team in the domain of the Air Mission Control. The willingness to work for airspace protection in the domain of aeronautics (i.e. defence domain) is a must have for this role.
The mission of the Product Owner will be to:
- In collaboration with peers (multicultural environment), define and master the product vision:
- Understand customer and user needs
- Acquire and maintain the knowledge of the operational domain and keep close to user needs
- Facilitate demonstrations to internal and/or external customer with the SW team in order to receive continuous feedbacks
- In co-engineering with the SW team participate to the definition of the functional solution considering the operational needs
- Ensure a role of leader who guides the SW team as the representative of the customer voice
- Provide the SW team with a prioritized backlog of engineering artefacts (e.g. stories) as inputs to be implemented
- Provide the SW team with his/her feedback on their delivered stories based on the DoD (definition of done) and AC (acceptance criteria) of the implemented artefacts
- Be available for the SW teams providing his/her support all along the development phase
- Improve practices and processes in a continuous improvement approach
Business travel to France (around Paris) will be required for receiving the competencies.
Presence on site is required for this role.
Technical Skills
Required:
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering or system engineering on SW preponderant systems (specification writing)
- At least a first experience of 2 years of Product Owner in an Agile Scrum team
- Willingness to discover the Command and Control (C2) domain for Integrated Airspace Protection
- Ability to build a product vision based on the understanding of the customer/user needs
- Ability to prioritize activities based on the operational value and the SW load capacity
- Knowledge of configuration and change management tools (e.g. JIRA)
- Ability to document and mentor colleagues on complex domain issues (presentations, wiki pages for products, pairing sessions with peers, etc.)
- Active contribution to communities (e.g. Agile communities) and implement best practices
Nice to have:
- Experience of System or SW development or testing
- Defence domain knowledge
- A first experience in an Agile at scale context
