What do you need to be great at this role?

You’ll have considerable procurement experience coupled with Proven ability to conduct successful commercial negotiations with suppliers and educated to degree level or equivalent.

- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of procurement, sourcing and contract management and a proven track record
- Experience of leading teams and support team development (e.g. towards CIPS or equivalent qualification(s))

The Role and Department   

The University's Procurement Service is offering a development opportunity to gain procurement (and general business) knowledge, experience and qualification with the prospect of permanent employment upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

The Trainee Procurement Administrative Assistant will undertake on the job training and a development plan will be created in conjunction with the successful candidate to take into account their individual needs. Following successful completion of the first part of the necessary on the job training and development plan (one year) the post-holder will move to Grade 3.  The Trainee Procurement Administrative Assistant is to embark on the Charted Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) qualification (starting level determined by their experience and qualifications). Upon successful completion of the procurement qualification and all on the job training the post-holder will move to a Grade 4 role.  This plan will be regularly reviewed and form the basis of the assessment to move to the Grade 4 role. The development plan may be extended if the University considers it necessary.

The Procurement Service forms part of the University's Professional Services function and delivers a centralised procurement and purchasing activity to the entire organisation.  The department is currently split between the Purchasing Team, who are responsible for the day-to- day tactical procurement, and the Category Team, who are responsible for strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management. The department is responsible for the procurement of all goods and services for the University and driving value for money, using strategic sourcing strategies within a category management framework.

Professional Services are expected to move into Boldon House (adjacent to the Arnison Centre) commencing Spring 2025, this will be a flagship building devoted to becoming the University's first ever professional service hub.  The building is being designed with flexible hybrid working in mind and will fully support the University's Hybrid Working Policy.  The Procurement Service are ear-marked to be one of the first occupants of this building.

What Inventory Control Warehouse Operations contributes to Cardinal Health

Inventory Management is accountable for the design and execution of demand planning and customer forecasting systems, supply planning, product deployment and expediting processes, and the development and implementation of a stocking optimization model to minimize costs and inventory while delivering on service requirements.

Responsibilities: 

• Directs and manages a team of inventory control warehouse associates to account for timely distribution and receipt of products and motivate employees to ensure that predetermined productivity and quality standards are achieved. 

• Oversees all inventory control operations which includes; managing the flow of goods, optimizing inventory levels, and ensuring efficient and accurate warehouse operations.

• Oversees the completion of SOX Reporting requirements, participates in QA events, reporting and resolution of Inbound and Outbound discrepancy, processing of customer returns, error resolution, cycle count compliance, profiling assistance and service issues.

• Implements best practices and maintains accurate inventory records.

• Adheres to budgetary guidelines and works to meet Distribution Center objectives and operational goals while maintaining standards pertaining to quality and inventory. 

• Drives and participates in continuous improvement projects and initiatives. 

• Performs daily scheduling of the work force to ensure proper staffing to select, replenish, restock, locate, and ship merchandise in a productive and cost-efficient manner.

• Develops and maintains an inventory tracking system.

• Evaluates inventory levels, reorder points, and stock availability regularly.

• Monitors and reports inventory accuracy and shrinkage.

• Designs and implements inventory control procedures.

• Examines raw material levels and identify shortages.

• Documents daily shipments and deliveries for replenishment

• Avoids excessive surplus or inefficiencies by properly ordering new supplies.

• Actively engages in employee development, which includes training, coaching, counseling, and performance appraisals. 

• Collaborates with cross functional teams at all levels within the organization, specifically within HR groups on a daily basis. 

• Interviews and makes hiring decisions for lead and associate level roles.   

• Maintains general responsibility for disciplinary process in the area of counseling, oral and written warnings; ensure a productive work climate in the warehouse operation. 

• Prepares ad hoc reports, as necessary using Excel (or any other necessary programs) 

• Reviews attendance/PTO records and ensures scheduling is maintained.  

• Holds staff accountable for conducting work in a safe manner while enforcing Cardinal Health compliance and regulations concerning OSHA, DEA, FDA, State and local authorities.

• Majority of workday is spent on the floor while balancing administrative duties. 

• Manages Deselect report daily to clear all inventory issues.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred; Bachelor’s degree a plus 

• 2-3 years related experience preferred. 

• Strong organizational skills are desired for success in this role

• Prior experience with inventory control, continuous improvement projects and initiatives 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills 

• Previous experience leading a team. 

• High level knowledge of Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables and spreadsheets)  

• Experience working within ERP’s (SAP or Manhattan) preferred.   

• Experience driving MHE equipment.

As Senior Procurement Manager (DCO) you will provide Procurement Leadership within the DCO area of the SSPW Procurement Team. You will lead a team of procurement professionals providing comprehensive procurement and commercial / contract management service in support of DCO project development. As the leader in the DCO team a key role, you will be the development and implementation of procurement strategies


- One of the key challenges the role faces is to secure the best overall value (price as well as technical quality, after care, etc.) with 3rd party providers of goods and services.
- The role is focus on the DCO projects within the SSPW Business Unit. The role is part of the CTO Procurement team with connection into the SSPW Head of Delivery through the Principal Procurement Manager SSPW.
- The role must balance a busy workload and ensure objectives are achieved on time without compromising governance, safety and quality standards.
- The key challenges for the role will be to define and agree Procurement Strategies for DCO projects and align these with the wider SSPW Procurement Team.
- In addition the role will include executing procurement strategies and ensure adequate DCO procurement resource is in place to pay a key part of project delivery.
- Decision making will be required particularly around Procurement strategies and resource solution


What you’ll be doing

- Lead, Initiate and implement project procurement strategies and governance frameworks for the DCO projects, including obtaining buy-in from key internal stakeholders.
- Lead team of procurement/contract management professionals and ensuring the DCO procurement team is adequately resourced and skilled to deliver DCO ambitions.
- Assess procurement risks (political, environment, technical, economic and legal) and develop appropriate procurement strategies.
- Lead the DCO procurement team in the procurement of goods and services for new DCO projects and associated activities to agreed project and commercial objectives in line with approved procedures and EU procurement regulations including:

- Purchasing market research / market intelligence
- Preparation and issue of requests for quotation / invitations to tender
- Leading evaluation of bids and coordinating inputs from the wider evaluation team (technical, legal, HSE)
- Negotiation of commercial terms with preferred suppliers
- Ensuring timely contract awards.
- Management of the contracts through delivery/construction


- Provide commercial support and advice to the business.
- Support Principal Procurement Mgr in the development of the SSPW Procurement team and Business Improvement Projects.
- Liaise regularly with key suppliers to create a strategic supply chain for DCO projects
- Audit / review compliance with approved procurement procedures.
- Compile and evaluate periodic procurement KPI reports.
- Identify and promote new procurement opportunities for the business (e.g. new entrants, innovations, cost savings, etc.) in consultation with key stakeholders.
- Manage procurement activities on business systems (e.g. SAP) and act as a point of reference for business users.

What do you need to be great at this role?

- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject.
- RICS or CIPS membership is desirable.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of procurement and contract management and a proven track record.
- Extensive EPC procurement and contract management experience
- managing procurement for major construction projects and/or other energy projects.
- Experience in commercial administration of development and construction contracts and cost management.
- Previous experience of managing and supporting a team
- Knowledge of the renewables industry would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of SAP ERP or similar is desirable.
- A qualification in a relevant engineering, business or legal discipline would be advantageous.
- Working knowledge of contract and construction law.
- Working knowledge of health and safety (e.g. IOSH, CDM) regulations.
- Knowledge of EU procurement regulations.
- Proven ability to conduct successful commercial negotiations with suppliers.

Criteria

Experience of working within a purchasing - buying role

Possess a full, valid driving licence

Working hours are Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5pm.
